That said, CenturyLink also has the same downsides as other fiber providers. CenturyLink’s network is split between its high-end fiber and low-end DSL network. Need speed? AT&T’s fiber internet plans offer upload and download speeds up to 5,000Mbps, so you won’t have performance problems if you’re downloading video games or watching 4K movies. AT&T also had a great third-place ranking in our customer satisfaction survey thanks to its quick response times and network of retail stores.

AT&T’s fiber pricing is slightly behind its competitors, as its plans start at $55 monthly for 300Mbps speeds. By comparison, CenturyLink has a $30 monthly plan in some regions, while Optimum’s plans start at $40 monthly.

And as with CenturyLink and other fiber ISPs, AT&T doesn’t have nationwide fiber coverage. If AT&T hasn’t reached your neighborhood yet, you’ll have to settle for its slower DSL plans.

Like other home 5G plans, T-Mobile 5G Home Internet uses the carrier’s mobile data network—instead of physical cables—to get your home online. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet’s a great alternative if your home doesn’t have standard internet hookups.

At a flat $60 monthly, T-Mobile’s pricing aligns with comparable ISPs. If you bundle internet with a qualifying T-Mobile cell phone plan, you can drop your internet bill to only $40 per month. You won’t have to deal with contracts or annual price increases on T-Mobile.

With download speeds that top out at around 245Mbps, T-Mobile 5G Home Internet will be fine for most households. You’ll run into problems if you regularly download large files and gaming, but it’ll be more than enough for basic browsing and streaming.

However, T-Mobile 5G Home Internet’s availability is its biggest hitch. T-Mobile’s rolled out the service only on a city-by-city basis, so you’ll be out of luck if you’re not near a major or mid-sized city with coverage.

Are you searching for an internet plan to pair with your DISH TV service? These providers didn’t check off as many boxes as our top picks, but they can still be great options to complete your DISH internet bundle.

Frontier

Frontier’s no longer DISH’s main internet partner, and you cannot bundle the ISP’s plans with DISH anymore. But that doesn’t mean that you still can’t choose a Frontier plan to go along with your DISH package.

Frontier’s fiber pricing is great and in line with CenturyLink—it starts at $44.99 monthly for 500Mbps speeds and includes standard features like unlimited data. But Frontier’s fiber footprint is spotty, and the ISP doesn’t offer flat-rate pricing, although you will get lengthy multi-year price guarantees.

Xfinity

If you’re near a major or mid-sized city, you’ll likely be able to get Xfinity internet service. Unlike ISPs like CenturyLink and AT&T, Xfinity’s cable internet speeds are consistent across its network—you won’t have to settle for worse internet like a DSL plan if you don’t live in the right area.

But Xfinity’s regional pricing model causes some unnecessary headaches. If you’re on one side of the country, you might get contract-free internet service, but if you’re in another area, you’ll have to lock in with Xfinity for a year. Plus, Xfinity’s upload speeds are dismal for a cable provider. With speeds between 5Mbps and 15Mbps on its non-premium plans, you’ll run into problems if more than a few people need to take Zoom calls.

Shopping for internet service generally comes down to three things: internet providers in your area, your budget, and your speed requirements. 100Mbps plans will generally be enough for a small home, but if you’re a heavy gamer or have a large family, you’ll want a plan with speeds of more than 300Mbps.

Do you live in a smaller or rural town without major ISP coverage? It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re out of options for internet service. Regional ISPs like MetroNet and Vyve Broadband offer great internet service without the name-brand recognition.
