iPad TV apps are the latest way for entertainment buffs to spend time watching television, getting behind-the-scenes content, and interacting with other fans of the same show.

The first network to develop an app was ABC, simply called the ABC Player. Now instead of running to their televisions, users can log into the application for free and stream the latest episodes of shows like Once Upon A Time, Body of Proof, Grey’s Anatomy, Nashville, and Happy Endings. The application lets users watch full episodes with limited commercials. This application is fun, easy to use, and free. This is a must-have for your iPad!

Another primetime network to take advantage of iPad TV apps was NBC. The network, which has struggled in the past to keep viewership high, has found a new way to interact with fans through its NBC app, giving users a great way to access shows like The Voice, Parks and Recreation, Chicago Fire, The New Normal, and Celebrity Apprentice. This application is open to anyone even if you don’t currently have an active cable service. What does that mean? That means you can now get access to some of NBC’s most popular shows for free!

HBO shows like True Blood, Girls, Lucky Louie, and Game of Thrones are all available to anyone at any time through the network’s HBO Go app for the iPad. The application is extremely user-friendly, as the latest in television and movies appear in a floating screen. After choosing the item you want to watch, you are taken into a fullscreen viewing room, with episode descriptions and behind-the-scenes content. The application is free to download but does require an active HBO subscription through your cable service.

If you like alternative shows that are more quality than quantity, you might want to download PBS’s iPad application. The application is nothing flashy, with very simple features. However, it gives you access to all the greats such as Antiques Roadshow, NOVA, telethons, and documentaries. Again, this app is free to download and does not require any type of subscription to use.

Still looking and haven’t found what you want? Then try the ABC Family app. It works similarly to the ABC app in that it offers a ton of popular shows without the need for a subscription. This is great for teenagers and older fans who feel like revisiting their youth with shows like Jane by Design, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and The Lying Game.

This list is just a taste of what’s available in terms of iPad TV apps available through the App Store and iTunes. If you have some extra time, browse through the store and see what piques your interest. You never know — you might find something new!
