Bianca Lawson is everything you want in an actress. She is sweet, excited, passionate, devoted, interesting, and intelligent. In five minutes of speaking with her, you feel like you have known her forever. With high profile roles in television shows like Dawson’s Creek, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, and most recently Teen Wolf, its not surprising that she has formed a dedicated fan base. In an exclusive interview, Lawson spoke about her career, her fans, and the summer finale of Teen Wolf.
Q: What has drawn you into focusing on so many television roles?
Lawson: I guess the draw for me is wherever the good material is, if it’s a good character and if it’s fun. There’s some great stuff on television right now so I just try to go where the good jobs are. [Laughs].
Q: Is it hard switching from set to set?
Lawson: No, I think it’s kind of a gift. On the one hand, being on a show where you are on it over and over gives you some job security and you get to really explore the character and you become a family with the people that you are with all of the time. But on the other hand, getting the chance to hop around is nice because you get to make up different characters and make up different experiences. A lot of shows are on location in different states, so it’s nice you get a variety and you never get bored and you get to flex different muscles. I love it.
Q: Is it crazy to reflect back on your career? You have been in some of the most popular movies and television shows in the past decade…
Lawson: I feel really, really blessed. As an actor, most actors are unemployed and you spend so much of your time auditioning and trying to get a job. I feel really, really blessed that I have been able to be on all of these awesome shows that people love and be able to work really consistently. I am kind of amazed, I am excited.
Q: Now of course, most recently you have begun working on Teen Wolf.
Q: Which is one of the biggest shows ever on television.
Lawson: I know, it’s so good and the last few episodes of the season are going to be really intense.
Q: How are the last few episodes going to play out for fans?
Lawson: A lot of questions will be answered about my character. You will definitely know who she is, what she has been doing all of this time. She has been kind of morally ambiguous — not really knowing why she is doing this and why she is doing that. I love that mystery and the fact that I get to wear so many hats because she is a jack of all trades. She is bad ass. These last couple of episodes you will have a clearer understanding of her message.
Q: You have so many fans that are so excited to see you on Teen Wolf.
Lawson: It really touches me. You do your work and you think, does anybody see it or does anybody care, am I doing this in a vacuum. It’s nice, it’s touching it makes you feel really good. It feels good that people are so excited and to get so much of that love coming at you, it feels really, really amazing.
Q: I don’t know if you could tell me, but will your character be coming back next season?
Lawson: Hmm… you have to wait and see because I don’t want to give anything away. You will see [laughs]. I don’t want to give anything away. It’s just going to be very intense and there are some more deaths. It’s just going to be intense and emotional. I think people are going to be really happy.
Q: I have a bunch of tweets from fans — one fan, Kiki said Hi.
Lawson: I know Kiki, tell her I said Hi!
Q: Another Twitter fan, her display name was Bullet, wanted to know if you sing?
Lawson: I have always been a secret singer, not a very confident singer. Recently, I have been sort of a bit braver about that. Maybe and I don’t know for sure, but maybe one of the songs will be on Pretty Little Liars this season.
Q: Now, I have to ask you, I know you have been asked this before but have you been considering going on Twitter?
Lawson: I always say maybe, maybe. People are probably so sick of me being like maybe one day. I am such a private person by nature and who is going to care if I am having coffee. But, I am warming up to it and I am going to do it. I am going to take the plunge.
Q: On behalf of your fans, I must say please go on Twitter and put out some new music!
Lawson: [Laughs]. I am in a lucky position that people actually want to hear me. I am so fortunate. I don’t know, okay I am going to do that — that is going to be my goal before my next birthday.
Q: Anything else you are working on?
Lawson: Some things I can’t say, but there is a little small passion project that I could talk about. I produced a film, Secret House, and it’s going to air on Lifetime in the fall, right now we are shooting for October. I am really excited and our cast is really amazing. It was a crazy, three-week intensive shoot. It’s totally different from anything I have ever done before. It’s about domestic violence, but it’s really an empowering message about survival. I am really excited because it was my first time producing.
