College Football Schedule This Week | 2022 Week 9
Level up your school spirit with CableTV.com’s weekly college football schedule, featuring channel listings for this week’s top matchups.
Fans of college football chaos didn’t have the best time in Week 8, as previously unbeaten upstarts like UCLA and Syracuse dropped their first games of the season. But even if the season’s starting to reach its “Playoff Contenders and Everyone Else” phase, there’s still fun to be found in the margins.
For this week’s edition of the CableTV.com College Football Watch Guide, let’s break down Week 9’s best games.
CableTV.com’s Game of the Week
Michigan State at Michigan | ABC
Between its middling offense, putrid defense, and 3–4 record, Michigan State’s follow-up to last year’s 11–2 season hasn’t exactly gone to plan. (The less said about NFTuck, the Mel Tucker-themed non-fungible token, or Mel Tucker’s fully guaranteed $95 million contract, the better.)
But give MSU credit for one thing—when it comes to Michigan–Michigan State week, MSU wakes up ready for spiting and with a passion for graphic design that accidentally gives Michigan a “W”:
On paper, the 7–0 Wolverines should soundly beat the Spartans, but rivalry game weirdness (combined with night game weirdness) can’t be entirely ignored. Be prepared for a game that’s over by the second quarter or a rain-soaked 15–12 slog.
Other college football games to watch
Ohio State at Penn State | FOX
The whirring death machine that is Ohio State football marches towards Happy Valley for its annual conference matchup with Penn State. Penn State is one of the few Big Ten teams that hasn’t been on the receiving end of an Ohio State blowout loss in the Ryan Day era, but considering the Nittany Lions haven’t won the series since 2016, it’s cold comfort for fans.
Penn State rebounded last week with a 45–17 win against an ailing Minnesota team, while Ohio State dispatched Iowa’s elite defense and ghastly offense in a 54–10 win.
Kentucky at Tennessee | ESPN
To paraphrase Tolstoy slightly: every Alabama win is alike, but every Alabama loss is hilarious in its own way.
After their big Week 7 win against the Crimson Tide, Tennessee resumes its SEC schedule against a stout Kentucky team.
Kentucky’s shine dulled slightly after back-to-back losses to Ole Miss and South Carolina, but the Wildcats rebounded with a nice win over Mississippi State in Week 7. If the Volunteers can clear the Wildcats, they’ll head into Week 10’s Georgia game with a potential playoff bid on the line.
Illinois at Nebraska | ABC
Illinois coach Bret Bielema believes in two things: running the ball and burly defenses.
In his second year at Illinois, the Illini are sitting atop the Big Ten West after doing both things with gusto. Running back Chase Brown leads the nation in rushing yards, and the Illini are number 1 for points and yards allowed. They’ll face an improving Nebraska team that could make some noise in a surprisingly tight Big Ten West race.
