Victoria’s Secret model Jessica Hart demonstrated the fine art of putting your stiletto-heeled foot in your mouth when she dissed pop country darling Taylor Swift at the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which was filmed in November, but airs on CBS December 10. When asked by Women’s Wear Daily if the all-American singer fit in with this year’s show, Hart commented, “No. I think, you know what, God bless her heart. I think she’s great. But, I don’t know, to me, she didn’t fit. I don’t know if I should say that.”
Uh, no, you probably shouldn’t have said that. Then she went on to try to clarify her comments.
“I think what you find is that for a lot of us, we’ve been working for 14, 15 years. What it takes to make it here comes from experience and confidence and knowing how to be confident with yourself. I think it comes with age. It’s definitely the benchmark of all jobs.”
Because, you know, those Victoria’s Secret models are such old souls, and Swift hasn’t had hardly any performance experience and surely has precious little confidence after performing in front of stadiums of fans for years. At least compared to Hart, who is essentially “filler” amongst the more recognizable angels.
Dear Ms. Hart: please stop while you’re behind. Please?
Then rumors ran wild that the model had been dropped from the Victoria’s Secret campaign over her remarks, which one might consider just a bit catty and disrespectful. USA Today went right to Ed Razek, president and chief marketing officer of Victoria’s Secret, to get the scoop that Hart was not fired, and he issued a statement about how the company and everyone involved just loves Swift, even Hart.
Time will tell if that’s true or just good PR spin. But anyway, this annual boys night on TV rolls on for another year, despite any little side controversies.
One interesting note that’s been overshadowed by the Hart vs Swift drama is that model Behati Prinsloo features rather prominently in this year’s show, and model Anne V is mysteriously absent. Now, if you remember a few years ago, Anne V walked the runway while her boyfriend at the time, Adam Levine, performed with his band Maroon 5: the video of Levine running up to kiss her on the cheek as she strutted her stuff went viral.
Well, a few things have changed since then.
Anne V and Levine split, then Levine started dating Anne’s model pal Prinsloo. Then they broke up, and Levine dated another Victoria’s Secret model, then he and Prinsloo got back together and got engaged. (Whew… it’s hard to keep up with that guy.) So, now Prinsloo took Anne V’s man and seems to have taken her gig as a Victoria’s Secret Angel.
Now that’s a cat fight in the making. Let’s hope Anne V has moved on to bigger and better things.
Tune into the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on CBS December 10 for plenty of lace, angel wings and runway drama. And let us know below in the comments if you think Swift rocked the runway with the angels.
