Your State’s Favorite Disney Classic

With Disney+ launching soon, we’re excited for the Disney Vault doors to open wide. Just imagine—every Disney movie at our fingertips. You can relive your childhood through all of your favorite movies, anytime and anywhere.

Our team dug into Google analytics to determine which Disney classic each US state is most excited to re-watch. Take a look!

Big changes from last year

We first listed each state’s favorite Disney classic back in 2018. While The Lion King (1994) still reigns supreme, other films came and went:

  • Even though a live-action version of The Lion King premiered this year, the lion coming-of-age film dipped from 17 states’ favorite in 2018 to 15 states’ in 2019.
  • Last year, 38 states’ favorite films featured an animal protagonist, but this year that number is down to 18.
  • The Aristocats (1970), Bambi (1942), The Fox and the Hound (1981), The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977), and Robin Hood (1973)—with all their fuzzy characters—were big winners last year, but nowhere to be seen now.
  • Meanwhile, the number of princess movies that made the cut has almost doubled.
  • And The Jungle Book (1967) blazed its way from zero top spots to the number one choice for 8 states.
  • Similarly, Beauty and the Beast (1991) cropped up as 6 states’ choice.
Perhaps most surprising of all, Utah chilled about Disney for once. It went from having an 8-way tie last year to going all out for Aladdin (1992).

How we chose the movies

With almost a century of work to choose from, it was tricky to narrow our classics down to 25. We pared down a list of Disney’s animated films before 1999 based on title familiarity, film popularity, and presence in Disney theme parks.

To find your state’s favorite, we analyzed the 25 most popular titles using interest shown in Google Trends data over the past 12 months.
