UPDATE: In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 550 telecom companies—including Mediacom—and associations have taken the Keep America Connected Pledge. It promises to do three things:

(1) not terminate service to any residential or small business customers because of their inability to pay their bills due to the disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic;
(2) waive any late fees that any residential or small business customers incur because of their economic circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemic; and
(3) open its Wi-Fi hotspots to any American who needs them.

Mediacom is also doing the following:

  • Increasing broadband speeds for Connect2Compete (low-income) customers from 10 Mbps to 25 Mbps
  • Offering broadband service for free for 60 days to new Connect2Compete customers
  • Reducing prices for 60 Mbps broadband service for new customers
  • Suspending data usage limits through May 15

Is Mediacom internet good?

Mediacom has six competitively priced ($19.99–$69.99 per month) cable internet packages with download speeds up to 60–1,000 Mbps. That’s as fast as every other internet provider except Xfinity (it gets up to 2,000 Mbps).

But in’s 2019 survey of customers from the 10 largest DSL and fiber internet service providers in the United States, Mediacom scored last in speed, which indicates that customers aren’t getting the speeds they expected at sign-up. And Mediacom’s overall score (3.88/5) put them in 9th place.

  • Internet speed: 3.93 (10th)
  • Reliability: 3.82 (9th)
  • Modem satisfaction: 3.92 (9th)
  • Install and setup: 4.00 (10th)
  • Customer support: 3.97 (8th)
  • Monthly bill: 3.74 (tie for 5th)
  • Value: 3.79 (8th)
  • Overall: 3.88 (9th)

It warrants mentioning that only 0.35 points separates 1st place from 10th place overall—so Mediacom’s 9th place finish isn’t bad. It means Mediacom customers are generally happy with the provider’s service while acknowledging that there’s room for improvement.
