T-Mobile keeps things pretty simple with two 5G home internet plans. For $40.00–$50.00/mo., you’ll get T-Mobile’s base 5G Home Internet plan, Internet Unlimited, and a free gateway device that’s basically a combo modem/Wi-Fi router.
If you opt for their new T-Mobile 5G Home Internet Plus plan, you’ll pay $50.00–$70.00/mo. for the same download and upload speeds as Unlimited. Along with your free gateway, you’ll also get access to a Wi-Fi Mesh Access Point. This extra piece of equipment will expand the coverage in your home, providing more consistent speeds across your home and allowing for a more optimized internet performance for larger households with more devices.
One of T-Mobile 5G’s biggest advantages is its straightforward and affordable pricing. Unlike a cable internet service provider (ISP), you won’t have to worry about a second-year price hike, contracts, data caps, or equipment fees on T-Mobile.
But on the flip side, T-Mobile doesn’t necessarily have the consistency of a cable internet plan. With home 5G, your internet speeds depend on a carrier’s 5G network in your area, and not all 5G coverage is built the same. There’s a reason why T-Mobile lists such wide ranges for its upload and download speeds. Will your download speed be 72 Mbps or 245 Mbps? It depends!
Is T-Mobile internet fast?
If your house is in the right location, it’s possible to reach download speeds above T-Mobile’s average estimates. On social media, some online customers who live near T-Mobile towers have reported hitting speeds of around 300 Mbps, which will be fast enough for a whole family. But if T-Mobile’s local 5G coverage has weak spots, your service could suffer from spotty connectivity and inconsistent download speeds.
If your address can get internet speeds of at least 200 Mbps from T-Mobile, we’d recommend taking a closer look at T-Mobile Home 5G. But our recommendation gets a little dicier if your address gets less than 100 Mbps. At this speed range, you’ll run into slow internet problems if more than two people want to watch Netflix or download apps at the same time.

T-Mobile’s best 5G Home Internet bundle option is a cell phone and internet bundle. If you add at least one phone line with T-Mobile’s Magenta MAX or Go5G Plus plan, you’ll pay only $40 per month for internet service instead of $50 monthly for the Unlimited plan. With the Plus plan, you’ll bump your internet bill down from $70 to $50 a month. That’s a savings of ten to twenty bucks a month—not bad.
This discount is slightly more restrictive than Verizon since MAX ($85 monthly for one line, $40 monthly with five lines) is T-Mobile’s premium cell phone plan. By comparison, Verizon gives an internet discount if you add any non-budget 5G plan. But if you’re already getting T-Mobile service for your household, a T-Mobile bundle is a great overall deal.
T-Mobile 5G Home Internet includes free equipment and some key features
As a relatively new internet technology, T-Mobile 5G Home Internet has several key differences compared to typical cable ISPs. Let’s break down T-Mobile 5G’s biggest features below, along with some of their included freebies.
T-Mobile equipment
Every T-Mobile 5G internet plan comes with a free Wi-Fi gateway device. This device connects your home to the internet and works similarly to a combo router/modem.
The nitty gritty: T-Mobile’s Gateway device converts the 5G signal it receives to Wi-Fi, which in turn provides a Wi-Fi signal accessible by all devices in your home.
And if you opt for the higher-end T-Mobile 5G Home Internet Plus plan, you’ll also get a Wi-Fi Mesh Access Point along with your gateway. This included piece of equipment expands the 5G Home Internet coverage in your home, providing more consistent speeds across your home.
Considering many providers charge additional equipment rental fees on top of your internet plan’s monthly cost, we appreciate T-Mobile providing the equipment at no additional charge to the customer.
T-Mobile 5G Home Internet availability
T-Mobile has rolled out 5G internet service on a city-by-city basis, but the provider’s coverage isn’t coast-to-coast yet. For instance, we could get T-Mobile 5G service when we searched with an address on one end of Denver, but we had no luck after trying an address 15 miles from our first address.
T-Mobile isn’t alone in its home 5G coverage issues—Verizon has also rolled out its home 5G on a similar city-by-city basis—but its coverage gaps are an extra hurdle for potential customers. You’ll increase your chances of getting T-Mobile 5G Home Internet if you’re near a major or midsize city.
T-Mobile Internet Lite
If T-Mobile 5G Home Internet isn’t available in your area, T-Mobile’s Internet Lite plans may be. T-Mobile Internet Lite provides the same speeds as T-Mobile 5G Home Internet (72-245 Mbps), but the Lite plans come with data caps. These caps start at 100GB, and once you reach them your speeds will be reduced—however, certain Lite plans allow you to purchase additional data passes for $10–$20 per line. No contracts
T-Mobile has no contracts on their 5G Home Internet plans, so you won’t be required to stay with the ISP for a full year. Without contracts, you’ll have the flexibility to sign up for T-Mobile 5G Home Internet even if you only need the service for a short while, and then you can cancel with no fees or repercussions.

Around 74% of the T-Mobile customers we surveyed in our 2024 Internet Customer Satisfaction Survey were satisfied with T-Mobile 5G Home Internet’s reliability. Since 5G home internet is typically not as reliable as, say, fiber internet, that number is pretty impressive.
We also consider latency in our reliability ratings. Latency refers to how long it takes for data to physically reach your computer. The lower the latency number, the better.
According to our partners at HighSpeedInternet.com, T-Mobile 5G Home Internet users have an average latency of 40.68 milliseconds. By comparison, users of fiber providers like Verizon Fios had a latency of 14.73 milliseconds—a good bit faster.
But regardless, 41 milliseconds is still a solid speed that should be plenty fast enough for your average streaming, Zooming, and gaming needs. For hardcore gamers out there, you may want to look for an ISP with a slightly lower latency to guarantee no lagging.

Are customers happy with T-Mobile?
In its first year in our annual Internet Customer Satisfaction Survey, T-Mobile 5G Home Internet made an impressive showing. It finished in the top 5 for a majority of the questions, often above competitors like Verizon 5G Home Internet and AT&T Fiber, and never fell out of the top 10.
Even with speeds that vary depending on where you’re located, T-Mobile finished fifth out of twenty-five providers for best speeds, with 77% of respondents saying they were completely or very satisfied with T-Mobile’s internet speeds.
T-Mobile’s results consistently fell behind fiber providers like Google Fiber, but for a 5G ISP, we’re still sufficiently impressed.
