Which is the best Marvel movie? What celluloid superhero saga do American true believers believe in most? We polled 1,126 Americans to see what the country thought collectively, and then we separated the results by the nine geographical regions of the US. Think of it as the popular vote vs. the electoral vote, without the consequences.
Most popular Marvel movies across the nation
The Avengers received 10.89% of total votes countrywide, making it America’s most popular Marvel movie. Iron Man follows in second place with 9.22% of the vote, and Black Panther—the highest-rated Marvel movie on Rotten Tomatoes (96% on the Tomatometer)—took third place with 8.44%.
Most popular Marvel movies by region
Now that we know what Marvel movie the collective country has cue’d up on Disney+, let’s see how Marvel movies fare geographically by region in the US.
The Avengers (five regions)
The Avengers is the most popular Marvel movie in five different regions: East North Central, East South Central, South Atlantic, West North Central, and West South Central.
In simpler terms, that’s all of America’s Heartland plus the South. In even simpler terms, it’s half the country. Wow—but that’s really only true in terms of land mass, since these aren’t the most populous states.
Avengers: Endgame (two regions)
The film taking the second-highest number of US regions is the fourth Avengers film, Avengers: Endgame. The Mid-Atlantic and Mountain regions—two disparate parts of the country separated by the Heartland—picked it. Interestingly, Endgame happens to be the film that killed off [REDACTED].*

Iron Man and Spider-Man: Far From Home (one region each)
Only the Pacific chose Iron Man as its #1 Marvel movie. So it looks like laid-back, socially conscious Californians and Pacific Northwesterners, plus Alaska and Hawaii—two states with very different definitions of chill—prefer billionaires in super-suits.
Spider-Man: Far From Home claimed only New England—and we think we know why. The new Spider-Man (Tom Holland) had big shoes to fill, just like New England did back in what we call “The Day,” and New England can relate. (Seems like solid reasoning, yeah?)
Final take
Countrywide and regionally, the big winner is The Avengers. That doesn’t mean we’ll see a group presidency in the US any time soon. Besides, we’d need to involve other interested parties—like the DC Universe—in the election, and we’re actually kinda sick of the two-party system. Luckily, no matter your favorite, you can watch all of the movies mentioned on Disney+.
