The Daytime Emmys, the Emmy Awards offshoot that honors soap operas, game shows, and talk shows, will not air on June 16 like originally planned. We likely won’t know the event’s ultimate fate until after the strike is over. This is entirely dependent on when the studios reach an agreement with the Writers’ Guild of America (WGA).
Keep an eye on our WGA Strike Guide for more information on what live shows and events have been affected by the strike.
What are the Daytime Emmys?
The Daytime Emmys are the home for all the shows that air between 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. All the shows stuck on permanent repeat in doctor’s offices and your parents’ houses: your Wheel of Fortunes, your Kelly Clarkson Shows, your Days of Our Lives-es.
As anyone at CableTV.com could tell you, “TV” is a wide label that covers more and more content every year. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recognized that the industry was ever-changing and created a whole new event—the Daytime Emmys—as a spinoff of the Primetime Emmys in 1974.
The Daytime Emmys aren’t the only spinoff to come out of the Emmys. There are also separate events for News and Documentary, as well as Sports. The Daytime Emmys themselves are actually split into several events: the Creative Arts Emmys and Lifestyle Emmys and the Children’s and Family Emmys are separate events.
The Daytime Emmys returned to an in-person ceremony in 2022 after a brief period away for the pandemic. The ceremony covers a wide range of TV awards, including Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, Outstanding Culinary Series, and Outstanding Game Show.
You can stream all archived ceremonies on the official Emmys website.
Where to watch the Daytime Emmys
Like most mainstream award shows, the Daytime Emmys are live on local TV. 2022’s Daytime Emmys ceremony aired on June 24 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+. You can also watch the ceremony on demand after the fact on the official Emmys website.
2023’s Daytime Emmys ceremony is currently postponed due to the Writers’ Strike, but we will keep this page updated when we know more information.
How to watch the Daytime Emmys on CBS
The Daytime Emmys usually air on CBS at 9 p.m. ET, although the exact date of the 2023 ceremony has been postponed indefinitely. You can watch CBS with a cable package, but since it’s a local channel, you can also access it without cable if you have an over-the-air (OTA) antenna.
Some streaming services also broadcast CBS live, like Youtube TV and Hulu + Live TV. For a full list of our recommendations, head over to our Best Live TV Streaming Services of 2023.
How to watch the Daytime Emmys on Paramount+
Since CBS has the rights to the Daytime Emmys, the ceremony is usually streamed concurrently with Paramount+. The catch is that CBS’s local TV streaming is only available with its Premium plan. If you have the cheaper Essential plan, you’ll have to wait and watch the ceremony on demand sometime after its initial airing.

How to watch the Daytime Emmys for free
You don’t have to pay a dime to watch the Daytime Emmys—as long you’re okay with spoilers. All Emmys ceremonies are available on demand the next day on the official Emmys website.
You will need an Emmys login, but it only asks for an email address and not a credit card. There’s one notable drawback: none of the VODs have captions. Come on, Emmys, it’s 2023.
Based on past events, CBS’s website might also provide select clips on demand sometime after the show airs.

Where’d the animation go?
If you’re a fan of the Daytime Emmys, you might notice something missing from this year’s nominees. 2022 marked the first year that children’s shows got their own Emmy event separate from the grown-up daytime dramas and courtroom shows.
The 2022 Children’s and Family Emmys aired on December 11 and featured seven new categories in addition to the ones that previously would have been a part of the Daytime Emmys. LeVar Burton received the Children’s and Family Emmys’ first Lifetime Achievement award.
Netflix really cleaned up at the 2022 awards, scoring wins for Heartstopper, City of Ghosts, Ada Twist, Scientist, The Baby-Sitters Club, Hilda and the Mountain King, Maya and the Three, and We the People.
The 2022 Children’s and Family Emmys will be available to stream on demand on the official Emmys website, but it is so far unclear when the 2023 ceremony will happen.
