  • ABC updated its strike-proof fall schedule with a Thursday block dedicated to The Bachelor franchise.
  • The new offering from the franchise, The Golden Bachelor, will premiere at 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, with lead Gerry Turner.
  • An hour later, a new season of Bachelor in Paradise joins the party for a two-hour premiere on ABC.

While scripted broadcast TV offerings will be slim pickings this fall due to the ongoing writers and actors strike, ABC did announce the premiere of its new Bachelor spinoff: The Golden Bachelor, which will be paired with Season 9 of Bachelor in Paradise. Jesse Palmer will host both shows.

Bachelor in Paradise sees returning contestants from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette as they travel to Mexico for another reality elimination series.

The Bachelor franchise’s Thursday block will air on ABC and begins on September 28. Streaming episodes will air on Hulu the next day.

What is The Golden Bachelor?

Starring 72-year-old Gerry Turner from Hudson, Indiana, The Golden Bachelor is basically just The Bachelor but with a cast of older adults. Initially slated for a pre-pandemic release, filming finally began this month in Los Angeles, with the show slated to premiere on September 28 on ABC.

For fans of The Bachelor, you know the drill. There will be a single bachelor (Turner, in this case) expected to select a partner from a number of romantic interests, and the pool is culled each week for elimination.

We do not know the contestants for The Golden Bachelor, but we can expect lots of roses and probably a family visit with Turner’s family—his daughter and granddaughter already appeared in the series promo.

What day will The Golden Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise air?

Instead of the usual Monday time slot, two iterations of The Bachelor franchise will take over Thursday nights on ABC instead.

On September 28, The Golden Bachelor will premiere at 8 p.m. ET, followed by Bachelor in Paradise at 9 p.m. ET. Both shows will air on ABC, with new episodes streaming on Hulu the next day.

Who will be on The Golden Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise?

Right now, we only know that the titular Golden Bachelor will be 72-year-old Gerry Turner from Hudson, Indiana. None of the contestants have been announced as of press time.

ABC announced the cast for Season 9 of Bachelor in Paradise. We’ll see contestants from the most recent season of The Bachelorette show up on the island: Brayden Bowers, Aaron Bryant, Peter Cappio, and Sean McLaughlin, along with five contestants from the most recent season The Bachelor: Greer Blitzer, Jess Girod, Kat Izzo, Olivia Lewis, and Mercedes Northup.

They will be joined by Blake Moynes (Bachelorette Season 16 + 17), Sam Jeffries (Bachelor Season 26), Rachel Recchia (Bachelor Season 26 and Bachelorette Season 19), and returning Paradise contestant Eliza Isichei (Bachelor Season 26 and Bachelor in Paradise Season 8).
