Canceled Sci-Fi Thriller Snowpiercer Rolls on at AMC This Summer With Its Fourth and Final Season

The train kept a-rollin’: TNT’s canceled Snowpiercer switches tracks to AMC and AMC+ in June.

The long and winding train ride of the post-apocalyptic TV thriller Snowpiercer finally has its last stop in sight: On Sunday, July 21, the former TNT series will premiere its fourth and final season on AMC and AMC+, with 10 episodes running through September.

A refresher: Snowpiercer, based on the 2013 film by Bong Joon-ho, which was itself based on the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, ran for three seasons on TNT from 2021 to 2022. A fourth and final season was shot and completed, but the ever-downsizing Warner Bros. Discovery announced in January 2023 that TNT wouldn’t be airing it. Then, earlier this year, AMC wheeled in for the save.

In addition to Snowpiercer’s fourth season, AMC also snagged the rights to the previous three, which aren’t currently available to watch anywhere (Warner Bros. Discovery was seriously thorough in its cancellation). Seasons 1 and 2 will begin streaming on AMC+ on Saturday, June 1, followed by season 3 on Saturday, June 8, leaving plenty of time to catch up before the new season drops.

Snowpiercer, set in the distant future of 2026(!), follows the last of humankind after the world has become an uninhabitable, ice-bound wasteland thanks to an ill-conceived attempt to cool the planet with atmospheric chemicals that worked way too well. You just can’t win with climate change.

Snowpiercer (TNT)

Earth’s survivors are crammed into a 1,001–car train called Snowpiercer, which was designed and built by billionaire Mr. Wilford. The train circles the planet in constant motion, generating its own energy and heat. Snowpiercer also generates its own class divisions: Mr. Wilford and the rest of the rich and powerful ride at the front of the train in luxury, while everyone else fights for scraps in the back.

It’s a sci-fi series on the frozen surface, but Snowpiercer is at its core a drama about societal classes and human survival. It’s a classic storytelling blueprint followed by shows from AMC’s own The Walking Dead to Apple TV+’s Silo (which is essentially a vertical Snowpiercer).

The series stars Jennifer Connelly (currently in Apple TV+’s Dark Matter), Daveed Diggs, Sean Bean, Rowan Blanchard, Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall, Sam Otto, Chelsea Harris, Mike O’Malley, Roberto Urbina and Sheila Vand. New cast members Clark Gregg and Michael Aronov join Snowpiercer in season 4.

AMC hasn’t yet released a new Snowpiercer trailer, so here’s the original season 1 trailer from TNT:
