When is the Euphoria Season 3 release date?

The most fashionably debauched teen drama on television is back for a third season, and fans are wondering if Rue Bennett is going to be okay.

When a trailer dropped for Season 3, the entire “Euphoria” fan universe went berserk online with breathless excitement and speculation. The new season premieres April 12 on HBO and HBO Max, and one big unresolved question is how Rue plans to settle her debts to a sinister drug dealer for a suitcase packed with thousands of dollars worth of narcotics that she sniffed through and then lost.

The final episode of the second season left that matter hanging, and the trailer for Season 3 immediately picks that up when she’s greeted by the disturbingly maternal Laurie and a gun-toting posse: “Hello, Rue. You owe me money.”

What the heck is “Euphoria” about?

In case you haven’t been up on the online hype, HBO’s “Euphoria” is a critically-acclaimed drama around the unbelievably dramatic lives of a group of teens in fictional East Highland, California. The show premiered in 2019 and it earned Zendaya two Emmy Awards for her role as Rue, a deeply troubled young woman who suffers from severe mental health issues and drug addiction.

Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Eric Dane, and Colman Domingo co-star as fellow students, parents, and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) sponsors whose lives center around the East Highland High School, one of the most unhinged fictional high schools ever captured on TV (second only perhaps to Roundview College in the UK version of “Skins”). Created by Sam Levinson, “Euphoria” is loaded with drugs, sex, violence, and heartbreak that consumes—but it’s equally acclaimed thanks to its literary references, savvy music supervision, and cinematic style.

There was a lot of speculation among fans and critics about whether another chapter of “Euphoria” would ever happen, considering that Zendaya and Sweeney have both become movie stars with busy filming schedules. Zendaya recently told Variety that the third season came together at a “whirlwind” pace, “like trying to get eight episodes in at once. It just flew by me.”

SPOILER ALERT: The untimely death in 2023 of Angus Cloud, who played the beloved young drug dealer Fezco, also made a lot of fans wonder if the show could go on. But here we are, ready to jump into more drama and depravity with this suburban California crew.

What happened in Season 2?

“Euphoria” ended on a suitably explosive note at the end of Season 2, as Lexi’s school play leads to a shocking onstage conflict between her and her sister, Cassie (played by Sweeney). Rue decides to stay sober after briefly finding some emotional closure with her transgender love interest Jules Vaughn (played by Schafer), though it’s still on a lot of fans’ minds whether they’ll properly rekindle a romance.

Meanwhile Fez and Cal both get arrested, and Fez’s adopted bro Ashtray is killed in a face-off with the police. Never a dull moment in East Highland.

Cool, so what should fans expect from Season 3?

In December 2025, “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson shared in an HBO Max presentation that Season 3 jumps five years into the future, picking up on all of the characters’ post-high school lives. Rue is living in Mexico, and viewers will get to see her come up with ways to work off her debts to Laurie. Still, Zendaya said in 2022 that she’d like to see “a little bit of happiness and a little bit of joy” in Rue’s life this go-round.

The core cast is all reportedly coming back for the third season. Even Dane might get screen time from a prison cell.

As for the other characters, Cassie and Nate will get married and move to the suburbs. “Jules is in art school, very nervous about having a career as a painter and trying to avoid responsibility at all costs,” Levinson said, according to Variety. “Maddy is working in Hollywood at a talent agency for a manager… And Lexi is an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone.”
