True Bromance: Where to Watch ‘Ted’ Movies and Shows

Not all childhood wishes come true, but they certainly did for fans of bong hits, sex jokes, and Boston accents when Seth MacFarlane announced the debut of a “Ted” TV series in 2024. Premiering on Peacock, the show is based on MacFarlane’s 2012 movie of the same name, which tells the story of a 35-year-old manchild and his lifelong best friend, a foul-mouthed sentient teddy bear.

What is “Ted” all about?

“Ted” is a buddy comedy about a human and a teddy bear. When a lonely boy from Massachusetts makes a wish that brings his favorite teddy to life, the titular bear enjoys a brief period of celebrity before the two friends grow up into a pair of weed-smoking underachievers who love cheap sex and Flash Gordon. Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane play John and Ted in the 2012 movie, which focuses on John’s struggles to distance himself from Ted and settle down with his extremely cool girlfriend, played by Mila Kunis.

“Ted” was such a hit that it got nominated for an Academy Award for best original song (“Everybody Needs a Best Friend”), and Wahlberg and MacFarlane teamed up again for a 2015 sequel. As for the 2024 TV series, it goes back in time to focus on John and Ted’s budding friendship during John’s high-school years—but don’t worry, the series is just as vulgar and ridiculous as the movies. In characteristically cheeky fashion, MacFarlane recently described the second season as “somewhat filthy, hopefully funny.”

Although it’s a little confusing that both the 2012 movie and the TV show are called “Ted,” it’s easy to figure out where to watch the movie “Ted”—just look it up on Prime Video and you can stream it for free until the end of February. After that you’ll have to pay to rent this Universal Pictures production on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, or Fandango at Home. Just like with the original 2012 movie, “Ted 2” is currently available to stream for free on Prime Video. However, it’s leaving at the end of February and will only be available for rent after that.
