DIRECTV Expands Telemundo Reach to 98% of Hispanic TV Homes Ahead of World Cup

DIRECTV's addition of Telemundo reaches 98 percent of Hispanic households.

If you’ve been pining for more golazos in your life, but lived in an area where Telemundo wasn’t available, you’ll be happy to know that those days are over just in time for the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 11.

DIRECTV recently expanded access to its MiEspañol® Genre Pack®, which features more than 60 Spanish-language channels for $34.99 per month (plus tax). The flagship network, Telemundo, and its affiliates are now available in more than 80 additional markets across the country for the first time*.

As a result, Telemundo and every other channel in the MiEspañol Genre Pack can serve about 98% of Hispanic TV homes in the United States. The expansion puts the channel and its local programming in more than 200 markets nationwide**.

Expanded ability to watch the World Cup

Telemundo is the official Spanish-language broadcaster of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As soccer’s best players battle it out across the 11 U.S. host cities, many DIRECTV customers will now be able to watch and stream local Telemundo broadcasts for the very first time.

Before the expansion, Telemundo affiliates were only available to DIRECTV customers in 20 major cities. The network’s national feed was available in 94 other metropolitan regions, but lacked localized programming.

Expanding Telemundo’s local footprint ensures a more neighborly viewing experience. For MiEspañol subscribers, some of the markets now receiving their local Telemundo broadcast include Austin, Charlotte, Milwaukee, Nashville, New Orleans, Portland, and Reno.

“With so many local station affiliates now joining the lineup, the experience becomes more localized, relevant, and widely available,” DIRECTV noted in its press release.

Inside the 2026 FIFA World Cup

As one of 2026’s biggest sporting events, the FIFA World Cup introduces an expanded format to the world’s most important soccer tournament. Fans can expect five weeks of nonstop action and intrigue, quests for bragging rights and national pride, and (occasional) flopping.

The World Cup will feature 104 matches contested by 48 nations. The host countries for the 2026 tournament are the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with matches taking place in 16 host cities. Those cities include Boston, Los Angeles, Mexico City, and Toronto.

A staple of the tournament will be Andrés Cantor, perhaps the most recognizable commentator in the sport. He’s the lead play-by-play announcer for Telemundo Deportes, which makes being a soccer fan and DIRECTV customer even more exhilarating during the tournament.

Cantor’s presence is sure to be a major reason Spanish-speaking fans will tune in. But his passion can definitely entice English speakers as well, as it has for decades.

How to watch the World Cup with DIRECTV

DIRECTV really is your one-stop shop for the World Cup. Every match will air across Telemundo (92 matches) and Universo (12 matches). Each channel will simulcast matches on Peacock Premium, which is available as a standalone add-on or included with DIRECTV’s MOVIES EXTRA PACK.

With Peacock Premium alone, you’ll be able to watch as many World Cup matches in Spanish as your eyes and ears can handle. And if you’re an English speaker or bilingual, DIRECTV carries FOX and FS1, the official English-language broadcast partners of the World Cup.

FOX Sports released its full list of World Cup studio analysts, and it’s a who’s who of soccer royalty. Fans will see the likes of Alexi Lalas, Carli Lloyd, Landon Donovan, Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Rebecca Lowe, and more.

Meanwhile, the elite talent calling games on Telemundo alongside Cantor will include Omar Zerón, José Luis López Salido, Jorge Calvo, Luis Omar Tapia, and Diego Balado.
