Fall is looming, but the summer movie season isn’t over yet: On Sunday, August 27, National Cinema Day 2023 kicks off a full day of $4 theater tickets to your favorite flicks of the summer, new releases, and classic re-releases. It was such a hit in 2022 that the National Cinema Foundation is going annual with it.
“Building on the unprecedented success of last year’s inaugural National Cinema Day, the Cinema Foundation is calling on film fans across the country to gather for a national day to celebrate the magic of the movies on the big screen,” reads the National Cinema Foundation’s statement.
“The second annual National Cinema Day celebrates the power of movies to bring us all together, and discounted admissions for all movies at participating U.S. theaters in all formats—including premium large format screens—will be no more than $4.”
If you haven’t visited a movie theater in a minute, here’s why National Cinema Day is such a great deal: The average movie ticket goes for around $10.53, according to the National Association of Theater Owners, meaning you could save at least $6 on your 35th viewing of Barbie (no judgment).
Participating movie theaters
Around 3,000 theaters across the country will be participating in National Cinema Day, showing movies on 30,000 screens on Sunday, August 27 (the event took place on a Saturday last year, with $3 ticket prices). Theater chains like AMC Theatres, Regal Movies, Cinemark, and more will be involved; you can find the full list at NationalCinemaDay.org and Fandango.com.
