How Did Sherlock and Moriarty First Meet? New Clip Reimagines Them as Young and Hot.

A new generation of Sherlock-obsessed teens is on the horizon

“Young Sheldon” has some competition. Amazon Prime Video’s new Sherlock Holmes adaptation isn’t what you’d expect from the genre. Sure, you’ve seen Sherlock as played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey, Jr., but have you seen Sherlock deal with puberty?

In “Young Sherlock,” based on the YA book series of the same name, young genius Sherlock Holmes is shipped off to Oxford University—where he must solve his very first murder. He’s aged up a bit from the books, from fourteen to nineteen, so this is probably targeting an older audience than Netflix’s “Enola Holmes.” But if you like historical thrillers or detective shows, you’ll want to give this a watch.

A new clip, courtesy IGN Fan Fest

Last week, we were dazzled by a bunch of new TV and video game trailers during IGN Fan Fest. I wrote about the new fanservice-ful clip from “One Piece” Season 2, where the characters broke the fourth wall, teasing audiences for the Straw Hat Pirates’ arrival in Loguetown.

But IGN Fan Fest also gave us a new “Young Sherlock” clip, and I’d consider this to be just as fanservice-y. In it, Sherlock meets the man who will become his greatest nemesis: James Moriarty.

Listen. I was on Tumblr in 2012. I was in the cheugy fangirl trenches. I watched my fair share of BBC “Sherlock,” and I can see the new generation of Sherlock/Moriarty AMVs coming from a mile away. The “dark academia” vibes don’t help matters. Audiences love an academic rivalry, especially when both boys are wearing funny-looking hats.

“Young Sherlock” series premiere date

“Young Sherlock” will premiere on March 4, 2026, at 3 a.m. ET on Amazon Prime Video. All eight episodes will drop at once, which is not the case for all Prime Video shows.

It’s not a great sign for the show’s future that the streamer is just dumping them like that, but at least it put the effort in to market the show at Fan Fest. And the trailer broke Prime Video records in its first week on the net, becoming the platform’s “most-watched series trailer.”
