Regular coaching carousel followers likely know the following saying: A coach never wants to be the guy who follows The Guy.
In Ohio State’s case, coach Ryan Day has a sterling 56–8 record and racked up at least 11 wins every regular season he’s been in charge in Columbus. But a number of Ohio State fans are itching to run Day out of town because of one stat: 0–3. (And considering the team responsible for that record won a national championship last year, we can understand why they’re pulling their hair out.)
Heading into this season, the Buckeyes are pushing in their chips to try and win it all: former UCLA head coach Chip Kelly was brought in to run the offense, numerous players with NFL Draft grades returned to Columbus, and Ohio State further upgraded their roster with transfer portal additions like quarterback Will Howard.
But with the pressure around Day at an all-time high, can Ohio State deliver on a season with championship-or-bust expectations? Here’s what you need to know if you want to watch Ohio State football this season.
Ohio State football schedule 2024
Ohio State is widely expected to be a frontrunner in the playoff race this year, and its schedule sets the Buckeyes up nicely for a return to the postseason. After a warmup non-conference slate, they’ll head to Autzen Stadium to play the Oregon Ducks, who’ll be one of Ohio State’s biggest challenges within the new-look Big Ten.
In the back half of the season, the Buckeyes will head to Happy Valley to face Penn State and face off against Northwestern at Wrigley Field in Chicago. And as always, Ohio State ends the season hosting a rebuilt Michigan team and will look to end their recent three-game skid in the series.
