New on Prime Video this week

Upload | Prime Video | Comedy, drama, science fiction

Season 4 premiere, Monday, August 25: Finally. The third season of this endlessly delightful Amazon Original TV series created by Greg Daniels (The Office, Parks and Recreation) ended about 21 months ago with a cliffhanger. Now, in this four-episode fourth season, we finally get to know which version of Nathan Brown was deleted/killed and if he and Nora will get to be together (digitally or otherwise) or if AI ruins everything. All episodes stream on Prime Video today.

It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley | Rent on Prime Video | Music, documentary

Movie, Tuesday, August 26: “How would you like your fans to think of you?” an interviewer asks Jeff Buckley in Amy Berg’s documentary about the late singer-songwriter. “Just the music,” he responded. “‘Cause when I’m dead, that’s the only thing that’ll be around.” Buckley’s magical songs—especially those from his lone studio album, Grace (1994)—have endured long past his tragic, untimely death in 1997. But he left more than music in his wake, namely the passionate tributes he inspired. I’m talking about scores of slobbery record reviews and essays and books—and this movie. Buckley’s gone, but his influence is never-ending.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf | Prime Video | Drama

Series premiere, Wednesday, August 27: This is a prequel series for the espionage thriller The Terminal List, co-created by The New York Times bestselling author Jack Carr (with David DiGilio). Carr’s novel of the same name is the original show’s source material. The prequel series is an origin story following a supporting character from the main series, Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch), as he transitions from Navy SEAL to CIA operative. Chris Pratt also appears in Dark Wolf as James Reece, the protagonist of The Terminal List.

New on Netflix this week

Two Graves | Netflix | Drama

Limited series premiere, Friday, August 29: In this three-episode Spanish-language miniseries, two 16-year-old girls have disappeared, but cops close the investigation due to a lack of evidence and suspects. Not content to let the case cool off, grandmother Isabel (Kiti Mánver) takes it on herself, not just solving the case but getting sweet revenge. All three eps are available to stream today on Netflix.

New on Shudder this week

The Movies That Made Shudder Watch Party: When Evil Lurks and The Sadness | Shudder | Horror

Movies, Friday, August 29, 9:00 p.m. ET: The latest watch party celebrating Shudder’s 10-year anniversary is a doozy of a double-feature. Demián Rugna’s When Evil Lurks treats demonic possession like an infectious disease, resulting in a timely body-horror nightmare. The Sadness, by Rob Jabbaz, is also timely in that it’s about an out-of-control virus that turns people into rabid, raging zombies. What makes these films timely, you ask? I’ll bet you can guess.

New on Peacock this week

WWE: Clash in Paris | Peacock | Sports, wrestling

Special event, Sunday, August 31: And the Lord said keep the Sabbath day—holy shit, did you see that guy take a folding chair to the dome?! This is where I admit that I don’t know a ton about rasslin’. But do you know who does? The guy who just said to himself, “Why the hell is he writing about the WWE if he doesn’t kn—” Easy, fella. I just wanted you to know a buncha underwear-clad dudes are gettin’ together in France to throw each other around a ring and pretend it’s sports—and it’s streaming tonight on Peacock. This has been a public service announcement just for you. (Please don’t put me in a suplecs.)

New movie releases available to rent/buy on VOD this week

Together (2025) | Body horror

I just read a spoiler for this body-horror film by first-time director Michael Shanks and starring real-life couple Alison Brie (Community) and Dave Franco (The Disaster Artist). I won’t spoil it for you, but the plot—the pair self-isolates in the country to work on themselves and their marriage, but a mysterious force causes changes in their bodies—provides a hint. If, like me, body horror is a subgenre that really gets under your skin, the part I read about is gonna mess you up. You can rent Together from video-on-demand (VOD) outlets like Prime Video, Google Movies & TV, and Fandango at Home (formerly VUDU) as of Tuesday, August 26.
