New on Hulu this week

Am I Being Unreasonable? | Hulu | Comedy, thriller

Season two premiere, Wednesday, March 12: Series co-creators Daisy Mae Cooper (co-creator of the BBC Three mockumentary This Country) and Selin Hizli (co-creator of BBC One’s Things You Should Have Done) star in this comedy-thriller. Cooper plays Nic, a mother with a beloved son (Lenny Rush), an unsatisfying marriage, and a huge secret. Hizli is Jen, a single mom new to town and Nic’s new bestie, whose friendship might expose Nic—and uncover a skeleton of her own. I binged the first season of this hilarious, intriguing, twisty show in one sitting. Can’t wait to do it again with the second. All six half-hour episodes hit Hulu today.

New on Netflix this week

Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney | Netflix | Talk show

Talk show premiere, Thursday, March 13 at 10 p.m. ET: After a successful one-week, six-episode run as Everybody’s in LA during the 2024 Netflix is a Joke fest, stand-up comedian and one-time Saturday Night Live writer (and occasional host) John Mulaney’s celebrity talk show is about to premiere live on Netflix. Character actor Richard Kind will co-host, and the show will have an in-studio robot called Saymo (what else would you call a talk-show robot?). Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney premieres tonight, and new episodes air live on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET.

New on NBC and Peacock this week

Long Bright River | Peacock | Drama, thriller

Limited series premiere, Thursday, March 13: Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls, Big Love) stars in this adaptation of Liz Moore’s bestselling novel of the same name. Mickey (Seyfried) is a Philly cop working in a neighborhood plagued by opioid addiction—and a string of murders possibly connected to her past. Nicholas Pinnock (For Life), Ashleigh Cummings (Citadel), Callum Vinson (Chucky), and John Doman (The Wire) round out the main cast. All eight episodes of this suspenseful Peacock Original stream today.

New on Netflix this week

Adolescence | Netflix | Drama, thriller

Limited series, Thursday, March 13: In this four-part limited series from creators Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, police arrest a 13-year-old boy (Owen Cooper, in his first role) for the murder of a female classmate, throwing his family into turmoil. Boiling Point director Philip Baranti helmed the production, filming each episode in one continuous shot—just like Boiling Point. Fun fact: That film stars Graham, who portrays the accused boy’s father in Adolescence. All four parts stream on Netflix today.

New on Prime Video this week

The Wheel of Time | Amazon Prime Video | Drama, fantasy

Season three premiere, Thursday, March 13: Great news for fans of this Rosamund Pike-led fantasy series based on Robert Jordan’s popular books: The show’s second season took 22 months to arrive, but the third is here after only 18. Without spoiling too much for newcomers, the mysterious Dragon Reborn figure has been identified but, according to the synopsis, becomes “increasingly unrecognizable” to their allies—Moraine Damodred (Pike) and Egwene al’Vere (Madeleine Madden)—in this third installment. All eight episodes stream today on Prime Video.

New on Apple TV+ this week

Dope Thief | Apple TV+ | Drama

Series premiere, Friday, March 14: Based on a Dennis Tafoya novel, Dope Thief finds friends (Atlanta’s Brian Tyree Henry and Narcos’ Wagner Moura) posing as DEA agents to rob a country house. In doing so, the pair lands in the middle of a massive drug operation. Other cast members include Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction), Kate Mulgrew (Orange Is the New Black), and Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete). Screenwriter Peter Craig (The Batman) is the creator and writer of the series, and he co-executive produces with filmmaker Ridley Scott and TV exec David W. Zucker. Two episodes stream today; the other six will come weekly on Fridays.

New on Hulu this week

Bill Burr: Drop Dead Years | Hulu | Stand-up comedy

Special, Friday, March 14: “I’m 56,” comedian Bill Burr says in the trailer for his new special (his first for Hulu after seven with Netflix). “This is too young to die of natural causes, but it’s not too young to drop dead.” That’s the kind of realness that’s made Burr a legend. He tells us the truth, even if it’s alarming or offensive—and we’re always better off for hearing it. Long live the king.

New movie releases available to rent/buy on VOD this week

Borderline (2025)

Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Azrael) plays world-famous pop star Sofia, who must fight for her life when a lunatic fan (Ray Nicholson) breaks into her home with ideas of matrimony. Nicholson happens to be the son of Jack Nicholson, and his performance in Smile 2 was an homage to his dad’s turn in The Shining. Judging from Borderline’s trailer, the junior Nicholson gives a similar performance—but Borderline still looks like a tense, gory good time. You can rent the film from video-on-demand (VOD) outlets (Amazon Prime Video, Google Movies & TV, VUDU, etc.) starting Friday, March 14.
