New on TV this week
This week’s What To Watch picks include new series (The Studio from Apple TV+, MobLand from Paramount+), the final season of Bosch: Legacy, a psychological horror film starring esteemed actors John Lithgow and Geoffrey Rush, a new stand-up special from Chelsea Handler, a film about a punk band trying to escape Cuba, and more. Let’s hit the couch!
New on Netflix this week
Chelsea Handler: The Feeling | Netflix | Stand-up comedy
Special, Tuesday, March 25: Comedian, author, producer, and erstwhile talk-show host Chelsea Handler put one joke in her new stand-up special’s trailer. It’s about pickleball. “That is not a subject that I can take seriously … That is not real exercise, okay? … You would burn more calories shoving an actual pickle—” You see where she’s goin’. It’s a bad, misinformed joke and, therefore, a poor choice for the trailer—but it won’t stop me from watching the acerbic, bankably funny comic’s special. (Even if it did, she’d probably just hand me a pickle and wish me well in white-knighting for pickleball, which is fantastic exercise).
New on Hulu this week
Big Boys | Hulu | Comedy
Season three premiere, Tuesday, March 25: Based on series creator/writer/narrator Jack Rooke’s semi-autobiographical comedy stage shows (Cheer The F**k Up, Good Grief, Happy Hour, and Love Letters), this British comedy series follows Jack (natch), a gay college student mourning his father and finding his way out of the closet. The series premiered in 2022 on the U.K.’s Channel 4, and Hulu added the first two seasons in December 2024. You can stream the new third season in its entirety as of today.
New on Apple TV+ this week
The Studio | Apple TV+ | Comedy
Series premiere, Wednesday, March 26: Movie buff Matt Remick (Seth Rogen, who co-created the series with partner Evan Goldberg) is the recently crowned head of the struggling Continental Studios. The high-stress gig—one Remick’s wanted his whole life—comes with a smorgasbord of creative, financial, and political stressors that could take him down personally and professionally. But, if Remick plays his cards right, he could be a Hollywood king. Two of the series’ 10 episodes premiere today, with the rest coming weekly.
New on Prime Video this week
Bosch: Legacy | Amazon Prime Video | Drama
Season three premiere, Thursday, March 27: Bosch, the police procedural series based on novelist Michael Connelly’s character, ran for seven seasons (2014–2021) before Bosch: Legacy (again, based on Connelly’s books) popped up. Billed as a spinoff, it’s essentially a continuation of Bosch. This will be the 10th and final season, altogether—and it returns to Amazon Prime Video now that Freevee (which streamed the first two seasons of Legacy) is gone. Hopefully that means we won’t have to sit through so many ads this time.

New on Hulu this week
Mid-Century Modern | Hulu | Comedy
Series premiere, Friday, March 28: Bunny Schneideman (Nathan Lane), Jerry Frank (Matt Bomer), and Arthur Broussard (Nathan Lee Graham) play three gay besties “of a certain age” who move into Bunny’s mother’s (Linda Lavin, RIP) Palm Springs mansion to live out their golden years. Does it sound like The Golden Girls? That’s no accident. Lane was cast as the Dorothy (played by Bea Arthur) character, Bomer as Rose (Betty White), and Graham as Blanche (Rue McLanahan). But don’t call Mid-Century Modern a gender-swapped reboot. Not officially, anyway. Created by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan (Will & Grace), the series’ 10 episodes stream Friday.
New on Shudder this week
The Rule of Jenny Pen | Shudder | Horror
Movie, Friday, March 28: We’ve already seen actor/national treasure John Lithgow be freaky in Dexter, Dexter: New Blood, and Raising Cain, but The Rule of Jenny Pen might be his scariest role yet. Lithgow plays Dave Crealy, a resident of a New Zealand retirement home (yup, he does the accent). Crealy’s been sneaking around the place, terrorizing other residents with the titular game and his creepy doll. When another resident, Stefan Mortensen (Geoffrey Rush, another brilliant actor), can’t get the staff to stop the madness, he takes on Crealy directly. Based on a short story by Owen Marshall.

New on Paramount+ this week
MobLand | Paramount+ | Drama, thriller
Series premiere, Sunday, March 30: The chronically debonair former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan plays a rough (but still suave) mob boss in this Guy Ritchie (Snatch) crime series. With Dame Helen Mirren playing his missus and Tom Hardy as the “fixer,” Brosnan’s character needs to win control of a “global crime syndicate.” I have high hopes for the series, which Paramount+ calls a “global crime drama” that will have a “global rollout.” Evidently, Paramount+ does, too.
