What to Watch on Discovery Plus

After streaming dozens of shows on Discovery+, these are the shows we recommend.

Some of us subscribe to a streaming TV service to watch one show. For example, Shark Week is the Squid Game of Discovery+. But what else lurks in the deep Discovery+ catalog? Come with us as we dive into the reality TV streaming service’s other offerings.

Recommended TV shows on Discovery Plus

Van Go (Discovery+)

Van Go | Magnolia Network | Automotive, home

In Magnolia Network series Van Go, Austin-based van-dweller Brett Lewis turns vanilla vans into mobile tiny homes, each with its own function and style. It’s like Pimp My Ride for millennials, but the idea isn’t to flex your in-dash PS5 (or some such nonsense)—it’s to live, and even work, minimally. So Lewis creates liveable mobile bike shops, food trucks, recording studios, surf shops, and more for his clients—always with stellar results.

Mythbusters (Discovery+)

Mythbusters | Discovery Channel | Science, technology

OK, this one’s totally obvious—but for good reason. Mythbusters is one of the most educational and entertaining shows ever, airing from 2003–2016 on Discovery Channel (with co-hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman) and 2017–2018 on the Science Channel (with Jon Lung and Brian Louden hosting). Discovery+ has the entire run of the series, so you can watch or rewatch classic episodes like “Alcatraz Escape,” “Brown Note,” “Exploding Toilet,” and “MacGyver Myths.” But remember: “Don’t try what you’re about to see at home.”

Mexican Made Easy (Discovery+)

Mexican Made Easy | Food Network | Cooking, food

When it comes to learning how to make drool-worthy Mexican dishes, we bow to Marcela Valladolid and her comal. You’ll find all five seasons (58 episodes) of Chef Marcela’s series on the Food Network hub of Discovery+, but just one 21-minute episode will inspire you to make—and devour—every last dish, mixed drink, mole, and salsa she features. And it’s not all Mexican dishes; Valladolid even serves up mind-blowing Mexican versions of American classics, like the Burger al Pastor. ¡Delicioso!

How It's Made (Discovery+)

How It’s Made | Science Channel | Science, technology

Have you ever wondered how “they” make absinthe, condoms, decorative sombreros, Fruity Pebbles, potato salad, Pringles, recycled skateboard guitars, turntables, or whips? Well, wonder no more. There are 24 seasons—hundreds of episodes—of this popular Canadian series on Discovery+. By the time you’ve seen them all, you’ll no longer be curious about how anything is made. And that’s when you pivot to How The Universe Works (also on the Science Channel).

Too Cute (Discovery+)

Too Cute | Animal Planet | Animals

Humans’ appetite for adorable animals is easily explained: they’re delicious. Just kidding, folks—we wouldn’t dream of eating the sweet little floofs from Too Cute. But we definitely recommend gobbling up all six seasons of this irresistible Animal Planet series. If you’re weary from world events, there’s no better balm than watching teeny-tiny kitties, goats, pups, and other animals as they enter and learn about the world.

Very Superstitious (Discovery+)

Very Superstitious with George Lopez | A&E | Paranormal, unexplained

Yes, the number of paranormal/unexplained shows on Discovery+ is ridiculous. But Very Superstitious, where Mexican-American comedian George Lopez crosses the country to explore ancient irrational beliefs, is awesome. The superstitions themselves are real, even if their consequences aren’t, so Lopez treats them with respect. Why? Because there is beauty and wisdom in the folklore behind these sincerely held beliefs. And, while Very Superstitious might not make you a believer, it will teach you a thing or two.

This Came Out of Me (Discovery+)

This Came Out of Me | Discovery Life | Medical

Yes, the title makes you want to turn and run—but you just . . . can’t. I mean, this is a show where doctors remove foreign objects (or pus) from personal places. We shouldn’t look, but we must because any of these conditions and injuries, no matter how unusual, could befall any of us at any time. So binge-watching This Came Out of Me falls under research and morbid curiosity. But there’s only one season because none of the foreign objects were haunted.

Outrageous 911 (Discovery+)

Outrageous 911 | TLC | True crime

Outrageous 911 explores the whimsical side of calling emergency services. In reenactments based on real 911 calls, four-year-olds report a Nana for withholding ice cream, drunk drivers turn themselves in, dead deer wake up in someone’s backseat, and a cop overdoses on pot brownies. With so many heavy reality shows highlighting the true trauma behind 911 emergency calls, it’s refreshing to watch one that leaves us laughing.

Licensed content on Discovery Plus

Some movies and shows on Discovery+ are licensed from other networks and studios. It’s good stuff, too, like Super High Me, Fear Factor, Unsolved Mysteries, and The Undateables).

Unfortunately, these titles aren’t highlighted in a separate menu, so they’re hard to find. They also tend to vanish without notice, so here’s how to find licensed content on Discovery+—or at least identify it so you can prioritize it in your queue instead of missing out.

  • Search: If you know the movie or show you’re looking for, use either text or voice search. (Captain Obvious says, “You’re welcome.”)
  • Browse: You can either browse a channel hub or use the “A to Z” section. Licensed content will not have a network logo on the thumbnail preview or series info page.
