‘Beef’ Season 2 Cast: Here’s Where You Know Them From

beef season 2
(Netflix)

Netflix is mixing it up for the new season of “Beef.” While the first season starred Ali Wong and Steven Yeun as strangers turned mortal enemies, the new second season features an all new cast. Season two stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan as Josh and Lindsay Martin, a married couple who have a jarring fight that’s witnessed by a younger couple, played by Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny. Melton and Spaeny play Austin and Ashley, respectively, who are engaged and both work at the country club where Josh is the manager.

With a Korean billionaire owner played by Youn Yuh-jung thrown into the mix, “Beef” Season 2 quickly escalates into a series of favors and strong-arming, which should leave audiences both cringing and eager anticipating what comes next.

But while all four main actors in the show’s cast have achieved awards-level fame and recognition, that still doesn’t necessarily mean they’re household names. Here’s where else you may have seen Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny.

“Frankenstein” (2025) | Oscar Isaac

As Baron Victor Frankenstein in Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of the classic Mary Shelley novel, Oscar Isaac displayed both brilliance and a fair degree of selfishness opposite his monster, played by Jacob Elordi. And while Elordi may have gotten most the awards-season shine for his tortured portrayal, Isaac deserves a good deal of credit as well, especially considering how effectively he conveyed the complex nature of what could have been a fairly one-dimensional character.

Where to watch “Frankenstein”

At the time of writing, you can watch “Frankenstein” on Netflix, or rent it from video-on-demand (VOD) outlets like Prime Video or Apple TV.

“Promising Young Woman” (2020) | Carey Mulligan

A black comedy from writer-director Emerald Fennell (“Saltburn,” “Wuthering Heights”), “Promising Young Woman” told the story of a vengeful young woman played by Carey Mulligan who seeks out predatory young men in bars only to confront them over their actions. She’s seeking to right the wrong done to her childhood best friend, who was raped and later committed suicide.

The whole film plays out in thrillingly delicious fashion and stars a cast of young Hollywood luminaries who really deliver, including Bo Burnham, Alison Brie, Sam Richardson, Adam Brody, and Max Greenfield. Mulligan really shines in the film as well, so much so that she earned Oscar, Golden Globe, and SAG Award (now Actor Award) nominations for her portrayal.

At the time of writing, you can stream “Promising Young Woman” on Peacock with a subscription or rent it through VOD outlets like Prime Video and Apple TV.

“Riverdale” (2017-2023)

As the douchey but charming Reggie Mantle on the CW series “Riverdale,” Charles Melton both captured and broke hearts. Originally introduced to the series as a de facto villain, a singularly-jerkish foil opposite KJ Apa and Cole Sprouse’s Archie and Jughead, Melton quickly became a fan favorite. In turn, the show’s writers gave Reggie a more complicated and nuanced backstory than he ever had in the “Archie” comics, including a fairly steamy romance with Camila Mendes’ Veronica.

Where to watch “Riverdale”

All seven seasons of “Riverdale” are available to stream on Netflix. You can also purchase full seasons or individual episodes on Prime Video and Apple TV.

“Priscilla” (2023)

As Elvis Presley’s far-too-young bride, Cailee Spaeny wowed audiences and industry insiders alike in Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla.” Acting opposite Jacob Elordi, who played the swaggering rock star, Spaeny gives the young Priscilla Beaulieu weight, depth, and a remarkable level of sadness. (She even earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress for her portrayal.) While Elvis has been lauded and praised for decades, “Priscilla” gives viewers a chance to see what it must have been like to be in the famous couple from the other side—something it never could have done without Spaeny’s excellent performance.

“Dune: Part One” (2021) | Oscar Isaac

Though Timothée Chalamet gets most of the credit for the “Dune” franchise’s success thanks to his intense portrayal of the star-crossed Paul Atreides, it’s Oscar Isaac’s character—Duke Leto Atreides—who sets Chalamet’s character off on his path to destiny. Assigned by the Emperor to supervise spice collection on the desert planet of Arrakis, Leto is more just and level-headed than his other counterparts in the government, making him both a hero to the masses and a target for vengeance. He meets his end in the first “Dune” movie (spoiler alert!) and an exiled Paul ends up joining the Fremen, determined to fulfill his father’s mission of bringing peace to Arrakis.

At the time of writing, you can stream “Dune: Part One” on HBO Max. You can also rent or purchase it via Prime Video and Apple TV.

“Drive” (2011) | Carey Mulligan

Though Ryan Gosling is very much the star of the thrillingly dark 2011 film “Drive,” Carey Mulligan is his romantic counterpart.

The actress plays Irene, neighbor to Gosling’s unnamed driver and mother of a young boy named Benicio. When Irene’s sketchy husband Standard Gabriel (played by “Beef” co-star Oscar Isaac) returns home from prison, Gosling’s character learns that Irene and Benicio’s lives are in danger thanks to an unpaid debt Standard racked up behind bars. He offers to help Standard pull a heist to get the money to settle the score and when the whole thing goes horribly awry thanks in part to a brutal elevator fight that Irene witnesses, the driver does what he can to make sure both Mulligan’s character and her on-screen son get somewhere safe.

Mulligan’s first big role after being nominated for an Academy Award around 2009’s “An Education,” “Drive” is an endlessly rewatchable modern classic.

At the time of writing, “Drive” is only available for purchase via VOD sites, including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home.

“May December” (2023) | Charles Melton

A deeply uncomfortable movie about an adult woman (Julianne Moore) who wooed and married one of her son’s 13-year-old friends, played later in life by Charles Melton, “May December” can be a bit too much for some viewers.

Co-starring Natalie Portman as an actress who travels to meet Moore and Melton’s characters as she prepares to play the former in a film, “May December” was chosen as one of the 10 best films of 2023 by the American Film Institute and received both critical acclaim and accolades, including four Golden Globe nominations and a Best Original Screenplay nod at the Academy Awards. Considered by most to be Melton’s breakout role, despite his years on “Riverdale,” “May December” is a deeply affecting (and disturbing) look at power, consent, and sexuality.

Where to watch “May December”

At the time of writing, “May December” is exclusively available to stream on Netflix.

“Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” (2025) | Cailee Spaeny

Though the third Knives Out movie is—rightfully—centered on Daniel Craig’s portrayal of detective Benoit Blanc, the film couldn’t work without its full cast of colorful characters, including Josh O’Connor as a troubled priest named Judd, a local cop played by Mila Kunis, and Cailee Spaeny as Simone. A former concert cellist who’s been injured and turns to the power of prayer in an attempt to regain her skills, Simone isn’t the loudest or most memorable character in “Wake Up Dead Man,” but she’s essential and compelling all the same.
