Where to Stream the 2023 Oscar Nominees

Don’t get overwhelmed by long nomination lists; here’s where you can stream the hottest Oscar-nominated films.

If you’re looking to study up before this year’s Oscars (March 12 on ABC, don’t miss it!), you’ve come to the right place. Many of this year’s nominees for Best Picture, Best Animated Feature, Best Actor, and Best Actress are already available on streaming services.

We put together this list for those movie buffs out there who love a bit of homework before their awards shows.

Before you say something: a few nominated films are not yet available for streaming, including Visual Effects nominee Avatar: The Way of Water. You might have to seek out a theater screening if you want to be a total completionist.

Oscar-nominated films on Netflix

Guillermo del Toro's Pinnochio.

All Quiet on the Western Front

All Quiet on the Western Front is an R-rated German film about a young soldier fighting in World War I. It received nominations for nine Oscars, including Best Picture and Cinematography.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

This movie isn’t the only Pinocchio retelling to come out in 2022, but it is the only one nominated for an Oscar. It reimagines the little wooden boy growing up in fascist Italy, with a star-studded voice cast including Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett, and Tilda Swinton. It only scored one Oscar nomination, though: Best Animated Feature Film.

The Sea Beast

Going up against Pinocchio is The Sea Beast, a fun animated film about a young girl who stows away with a crew of seafaring monster hunters. It also received a nomination for Best Animated Feature.

Blonde

Blonde is a fictional account of the life of Marilyn Monroe. It garnered a lot of criticism in 2022 for the liberties taken in portraying the actress’s story. While it isn’t in the running for Best Picture, Ana de Armas received a nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Oscar-nominated films on HBO Max

Baz Luhrmann's Elvis.

The Banshees of Inisherin

The Banshees of Inisherin is a tragicomedy that follows two lifelong friends on an island off the west coast of Ireland. The film received nine Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.

Elvis

Aren’t you at least a little curious to see the film that possibly (irrevocably) changed Austin Butler’s accent? This Baz Luhrmann–directed biopic received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Oscar-nominated films on Disney Plus

Turning Red.

Turning Red

This film is my favorite Oscar nominee this year. Turning Red is a Disney-Pixar animated film about a Chinese-Canadian tween whose life changes when she turns into a giant red panda. It only received one Oscar nomination—Best Animated Feature Film—but IMO it should totally win Best Original Song, too.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Black Panther 2 is more than just another entry in a long line of MCU movies. It’s a film about grief (both in-universe and in the real world, after the death of former Black Panther Chadwick Boseman) and choosing to continue living after experiencing loss. Buuut it also doesn’t hurt that it has a bunch of fun MCU tie-ins. Black Panther 2 received five Oscars nominations, including Costume Design and Visual Effects.

Oscar-nominated films on other streaming services

Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.

Everything, Everywhere, All at Once | SHOWTIME

This dramedy follows a Chinese immigrant (Michelle Yeoh) as she has an existential experience hopping through the multiverse. It received a whopping eleven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actor/Actress noms for Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ke Huy Quan.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish | Peacock

The Shrek franchise has produced a lot of movies of varying quality, but by all reports this Puss in Boots sequel is one of the best. Unfortunately, the first Puss in Boots movie isn’t on Peacock, but let me catch you up: he’s a talking cat!

Tár | Peacock

This psychological drama is about Lydia Tár, the first female conductor of the fictitious Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and the scandals that arise amid accusations of sexual abuse. It received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actress (Cate Blanchett).

Top Gun: Maverick | Paramount+

Maverick is the sequel to 1986’s Top Gun, following a thirty-years-older version of Maverick leading an impossible mission and training a squad of young pilots. It surprisingly received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Original Song (once again, I say Turning Red deserved this).
