What Channel Is FX On?

FX is one of cable TV’s power players, and it’s easy to watch wherever you are.

When it premiered in 1994, FX was just another cable channel airing old movies, TV reruns, and a handful of low-budget original shows (including a viewer email response series hosted by future “Survivor” idol Jeff Probst). Not exactly must-see TV.

That all changed in the early 2000s, when FX launched its mission to become the basic-cable HBO with premium originals like “The Shield,” “Rescue Me,” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Acclaimed series like “American Horror Story,” “Alien: Earth,” and “Welcome to Wrexham” carry the flame today, and FX is still one of the most-available networks on cable, satellite, and live streaming TV.

Get FX through a streaming app

FX has abandoned its standalone FXNOW channel app, instead directing viewers to Hulu. On the downside, you no longer have free access to FX shows with your cable subscription login. On the (substantial) upside, Hulu has full seasons of most every FX series, from 2002’s “The Shield” up to 2026’s “The Beauty,” as well as cult FX gems like “Terriers” and “The Riches.” But, pre-“Shield” FX shows like “Son of the Beach” have been lost to time (and taste).

What’s on FX?

FX’s current roster of originals includes the long-running “American Horror Story,” as well as newer critical favorites “The Beauty,” “Shogun,” “Alien: Earth,” “The Lowdown,” “Adults,” “Welcome to Wrexham,” “Fargo,” and the wildly popular “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Caroline Bessette.”

When it’s not running originals in prime time, FX’s daily schedule is mostly made up of movie reruns, including marathon blocks from the Marvel and Star Wars universes, thanks to the network’s Disney connection.
