HBO Max Channels
Looking for shortcuts to specific HBO Max content? The channel hubs are where it’s at.
HBO Max channel hubs
HBO Max’s multiple categories make navigating its purple streaming waters a bit easier, but if you want to get more specific than “Just added,” “Trending now,” or “Documentaries,” HBO Max’s content hubs simplify things even more.
The 10 HBO Max hubs, or “channels,” include the obvious, like Max Originals (exclusive HBO Max shows and movies) and HBO (original and acquired shows and movies from o.g. HBO). What you might not expect are content collections from Sesame Workshop, Cartoon Network, and Looney Tunes—HBO Max isn’t just for adults.
Here’s a little more about each of HBO Max’s 10 content hubs.
HBO Max Originals
The Flight Attendant, Legendary, Hacks, and the rest of HBO Max’s growing library of originals reside in—where else?—the Max Originals hub.
These are series, movies, and documentaries that can be found only on HBO Max and don’t cross over into HBO proper, though some titles can be found in other hubs (like Doom Patrol, which also shows up in the DC hub). Max Originals hub content can be sorted by “Featured” or “A–Z.”
HBO on HBO Max
The HBO hub features shows and movies from the original cable/satellite HBO network, like The White Lotus, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and, of course, Game of Thrones.
Most of the series, movies, and documentaries are made available on HBO Max around the same time as they air live on HBO (if you’ve been streaming on-demand HBO for a while, it’s easy to forget that HBO is a live cable channel). HBO hub content can be sorted by “Featured,” “Just Added Movies,” “A–Z,” “Series,” “Movies,” “Kids,” “Documentaries,” “Comedy Specials,” and “Sports.”
DC on HBO Max
Remember the DC Universe streaming service? HBO parent company WarnerMedia shut it down and folded all of its DC Comics–related content into HBO Max, making shows like Doom Patrol and Titans Max Originals.
The DC hub is also home to DC series from The CW (like Batwoman and Stargirl), animated shows (like Batman Beyond and Justice League Dark), and blockbuster movies (like Zack Snyder’s Justice League and The Suicide Squad). DC hub content can be sorted by “Featured,” “Batman,” Wonder Woman,” “Superman,” and “A–Z.”
TCM on HBO Max
Movie buffs will find plenty to geek out about in the Turner Classic Movies hub, which is loaded with acclaimed films from the ‘50s to the present.
In the TCM hub, iconic movies like Casablanca and Citizen Kane are featured alongside sci-fi fare like Escape from New York, indie flicks like Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, and comedy hits like Clueless. TCM hub content can be sorted by “Featured,” “Just Added,” “A–Z,” “Drama,” “Comedy,” “Oscar Winners,” and “International.”
Adult Swim Collection on HBO Max
From classics like The Venture Bros. and Harvey Birdman to newer hits like Rick and Morty and Final Space, HBO Max’s Adult Swim Collection hub has most of the hot weirdness from your favorite overnight channel.
There are a few missing series, like The Eric Andre Show and Dream Corp LLC, but the [AS] hub does feature all 12 seasons of Squidbillies and the complete Tim & Eric series trilogy—all with no commercials (unlike the Adult Swim app and website). Adult Swim Collection hub content can be sorted by “Featured” and “A–Z.”
Cartoon Network Collection on HBO Max
Like the Adult Swim Collection, HBO Max’s Cartoon Network Collection hub doesn’t feature every show from the cable animation destination, but the good stuff is present. Adventure Time, Ben 10, Craig of the Creek, Apple & Onion, and more current hits are here, as are past favorites like Dexter’s Laboratory, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and The Powerpuff Girls.
Most importantly, Cartoon Network Collection is the only place to stream all Steven Universe series and movies. Cartoon Network Collection hub content can be sorted by “Featured” and “A–Z.”
Looney Tunes on HBO Max
Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Wiley E. Coyote, Porky Pig—the gang’s all here in the Looney Tunes hub.
Not only are classic cartoons from decades past included, but also there’s the modernized 2011–14 Looney Tunes Show (where the Looney Tunes characters are neighbors in a Los Angeles suburb) and the greatest sports documentary of all time, 1996’s Space Jam. Looney Tunes hub content can be sorted by “Featured” and “A–Z.”
Crunchyroll on HBO Max
Popular anime streamer Crunchyroll carries over 30,000 episodes from hundreds of series. In comparison, the Crunchyroll hub on HBO Max is more of a curated sampling, with full seasons from 40 shows including Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Dr. Stone, Berserk, Hunter x Hunter, InuYasha, and more, with English subtitles or dubbed dialogue options.
Some titles even get the simulcast treatment, with new episodes being released the same day in the US as Japan. Crunchyroll hub content can be sorted by “Featured,” “A–Z,” “English Dubs,” and “Subtitled Anime.”
Studio Ghibli on HBO Max
Speaking of Japanese animation, HBO Max’s hubs also include Studio Ghibli, the film studio behind Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Earwig and the Witch, and more. The Studio Ghibli hub features those movies and 20 more, including The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, a behind-the-scenes documentary about the studio and its animators.
Sesame Workshop on HBO Max
Besides all 51—yes, 51—seasons of the iconic Sesame Street series, HBO Max’s Sesame Workshop hub also features Max Originals like Elmo’s Playdate, Esme & Roy, The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo, and the classic 1985 Big Bird adventure film Follow That Bird. Sesame Workshop hub content can be sorted by “Featured” and “A–Z.”
