At $14.99 a month, HBO Max is one of the more expensive streaming services in TV land—of course you’re looking for a deal. So are we, and we’ve found five offers that can save you a few bucks (or even all the bucks) on your HBO Max subscription.
HBO Max with AT&T
Since HBO Max is owned by AT&T, there are a few bundle deals to be had for AT&T customers:
- AT&T Wireless: You can get HBO Max service included free with the AT&T Wireless Unlimited Elite plan, which also comes with unlimited data, 5G access, and 4K streaming capability. The Unlimited Elite plan starts at $85 a month for a single line, with discounts applied for more lines (like $45 per line when you buy five). If you eat through a lot of data, this is a plan worth checking out.
- AT&T Internet: The AT&T Fiber Internet 1000 plan, which starts at $60 a month, includes free HBO Max service, and it gives you 1,000 Mbps (or 1 Gbps) of download/upload speed and unlimited internet data. On the downside, AT&T Fiber Internet isn’t available in all areas.
- DIRECTV STREAM: New DIRECTV STREAM customers can get three months of free HBO Max included with select TV packages. (DIRECTV STREAM recently replaced the AT&T TV live TV streaming service.)
HBO Max with Hulu
Unlike some other streaming services, HBO Max doesn’t offer a free trial period—but Hulu does, and you can subscribe to HBO Max through Hulu for seven days at no charge. This offer is for new HBO Max subscribers only and reverts to the regular $14.99 a month price after a week. It’s temporary, but maybe worth it if you want to take the “Watch all 10 seasons of Friends in a week” challenge.
HBO Max with Cricket Wireless
Cricket’s Unlimited + 15 GB Mobile Hotspot mobile plan, which starts at $60 a month for one line (or $32 per line with five lines), includes free HBO Max. Unfortunately, it’s the ad-supported version, but you’d still save nearly $120 a year on HBO Max service.
HBO Max with ads
Wait, there’s an ad-supported version of HBO Max? Yes, and it goes for $9.99 a month, which is $5 less than its regular plan. As you’d expect, this discounted plan includes commercial spots. It also doesn’t support 4K HD, and it excludes same-day access to Warner Bros. theatrical movie premieres (one of HBO Max’s coolest perks).
On the upside, the ads don’t intrude upon HBO Max Originals, and you’d save $60 a year with this plan. We don’t like the idea of ads in our HBO, but this deal isn’t bad.
HBO Max with annual payment
Like Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video, and other streaming services, HBO Max offers a discount if you pay upfront for a year of service. You can get the regular HBO Max ($14.99 per month) for $149.99 a year (a savings of $29.89 annually), or the ad-supported HBO Max ($9.99 per month) for $99.99 a year (a savings of $19.89 annually).
If you know you’ll be watching HBO Max all year—and why wouldn’t you be?—this is one of the simplest deals to get in on.
