No Time to Bleed: How to Watch the Predator Movies in Order

Get to the choppa! ‘Cause this guide to streaming and renting all the Predator movies—including the upcoming Predator: Badlands—is about to take off.

How many Predator movies are there?

Judging a movie by how many quotes it’s remembered for is no guarantee of quality, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire (or in this case, a thermal vision laser targeting system wielded by an 8-foot-tall alien with neon green blood). And the original Predator, a pop-culture touchstone born in the steroid era, has some doozies: “I ain’t got time to bleed,” “If it bleeds, we can kill it” and, of course, the immortal “Get to the choppa!”

All of these are recycled later in the franchise as fan service to support films of questionable artistic value. Oh, who are we kidding! Predator was never about art; it’s about action, an extraterrestrial spin on The Most Dangerous Game. So get to the choppa, soldier! I’m about to tell you where to stream or rent all nine Predator movies—including the upcoming Predator: Badlands, which comes out on Nov. 7, 2025.

Pro tip: Watching all eight Predator movies will take 12 hours and 3 minutes.

How to watch the Predator movies in chronological order

While director John McTiernan’s first film was set at the time of its release (1987), subsequent entries cheated their way through history to create a slightly more complex view of Predator politics. (Not to mention the whole Alien crossover double-feature—AVP if you’re nasty—that folded things into the Weyland-Yutani universe.)

The two franchises grew together like a cinematic vine, but there were definitely some films that needed pruning. So keep your eyes peeled for Easter eggs as we reveal exactly who did what to whom and when.

List of Predator movies in order

Where to watch Predator (1987)

A movie with so much testosterone it’s been known to cause early onset puberty in sensitive viewers, Predator is a stripped-down sci-fi action spectacle that makes perfect use of Arnold Schwazeneggar’s skill set.

Sure, it’s fun to watch him lead a team of juiced-up mercenaries through the jungle (including Jesse Ventura and Carl Weathers), but it’s the final 30 minutes where he unleashes his inner Tarzan that makes the movie so much damn fun. And as movie monsters go, the Predator himself ranks right up there with the Universal horror classics.

Where to watch Predator 2 (1990)

No Arnold. No problem. Released in 1990, the first sequel moves things to the urban jungle of a near future (1997) LA, plagued by so much gang violence that the arrival of an intergalactic trophy hunter only ranks coverage from Morton Downey Jr.! Gary Busey wants to capture it, Danny Glover wants to kill it, and Bill Paxton becomes the first actor to pull off the hat trick of being killed by a Terminator, an Alien, and a Predator.

This one is sleek, slick, and fun thanks to returning screenwriters Jim and John Thomas, who create a history for the Predator, which opens up a world of possibilities.

Fun fact: Keep your eyes peeled for the xenomorph skull on the trophy wall inside the Predator ship.

Where to watch Alien vs. Predator (2004)

Unlike Marvel, which had to hit the negotiating table to secure rights for their cinematic team-ups, Fox already owned both of their sci-fi bad guys. So the long gestating AVP: Alien vs. Predator finally made the jump from comic books to the big screen in 2004 with a movie that’s not bad enough to hate or good enough to admire.

Apparently, the human race has been used to breed xenomorphs for millennia just so that Predators could stage a big game hunt at the nearest multi-cultural pyramid. Two miles under the ice, a team of archeologists gets caught up in the latest grudge match and must choose sides in order to survive.

Xenomorph blood is thicker than water—and way more acidic—so the first human/Predator buddy flick is born. There are a few well-choreographed moments here, but nothing to justify a sequel. Yet that’s just what we got!

Fun fact: Director Paul W. S. Anderson has Frankenstein vs. The Wolfman playing on a TV set in the opening scenes as an homage to one of the first monster mashes.

Where to watch Alien vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)

AVP: Requiem decides to stage the next showdown in small-town America, where the cast of Riverdale is tossed into a blender. A mean-spirited fan film, kids, teens, not even pregnant women are spared the chest-bursting treatment in this dimly-lit, quick cut, POS directed by the guys responsible for your least favorite Nickelback video. The concept of a “Predo-morph” has some potential, and the pendulum swings favorably back toward practical special effects, but the film’s small-scale suburban setting feels all wrong.

Where to watch Predators (2010)

A yakuza, convict, cartel enforcer, serial killer, and three mercs walk into a bar. Well, actually, they’re dropped onto an alien planet, but the punchline is the same. Predators offers up an entertaining course-correction for a franchise that was at risk of being hijacked by its own guest star. There are no xenomorphs in sight in this 2010 sequel that strands a menagerie of killers on a Predator hunting preserve where the biggest danger might be (wait for it) each other!

A buffed-up Adrien Brody leads us through a jungle full of war pigs and familiar music cues. And it’s refreshing to see everyone’s favorite dreadlocked alien species getting fresh air and vitamin-D-laden sunshine again. And I love that this film introduces the Predator’s penchant for collecting live specimens (a plot point that will surface again later).

Where to watch The Predator (2018)

Screenwriter Shane Black (Lethal Weapon), who played a grunt in the first film, takes the reins in 2018’s The Predator, turning the franchise into a potty-mouthed Marvel movie that’s more “try-hard” than Die Hard.

In between the swaggering machismo and your-momma jokes, another Predator crash-lands with a cargo full of performance-enhancing drugs that marks him for death by a pursuing “Super Predator.” Co-screenwriter Fred Dekker cribs from his Monster Squad and Night of the Creeps idea discard pile to craft a movie that feels outdated, no matter where you put it on the franchise timeline.

Where to watch Prey (2022)

Released straight to streaming (Hulu) in 2022, Prey has no business being this good. But director Dan Trachtenberg finally gets back to what made the first film so frickin’ great in the first place: pitting an outmatched homosapien against one of the most experienced killers in the galaxy.

This mano a mano scenario is made even more satisfying by being set in the plains of North America circa 1719, against a female Comanche opponent armed only with a tricked-out hatchet.

It ain’t Shakespeare, but it’s elegantly shot and skillfully written, exactly the sort of high-concept experiment the franchise needed to stay relevant in an era of superhero fatigue. It also required zero knowledge of the previous films to be enjoyed by fans and newcomers alike.

Where to watch Predator: Killer of Killers (2025)

Now that the franchise had its mojo back, Trachtenberg went all-in on an animated installment, Predator: Killer of Killers, that built on the previous rulebook and added a few twists of its own.

Broken down into three stories featuring combatants from various Earth eras (a blood-crazed Viking, reluctant samurai, and flighty WW2 pilot), the final chapter pulls them all together for an arena battle on the Predator homeworld.

But cartoons are for kids, you say?! Ten minutes in and you’ll forget you’re not watching a live-action movie. Not only is the fight choreography stunning and the animation style beautiful, but the last few minutes tie the entire franchise together in a nice, convenient bow.

Where to watch Predator: Badlands (Nov. 7, 2025)

So here’s what we know about Trachtenberg’s live-action follow-up, Predator: Badlands. A young Predator must prove his honor on a hostile alien world where he forges an uneasy bond with a damaged Weyland-Yutani android. Sounds like we’re going back down the AVP rabbit hole, right? But it’s also the first film in the franchise where the Predator is the underdog—and that’s a fresh twist worth stalking.

How to watch every Predator movie in order FAQ

In what order should I watch the Predator movies?

While there is a chronological order to the Predator films, you’re honestly better off sticking with the release dates, as each film makes assorted references to the one that came before. Predator 2 essentially gets ignored until The Predator, Predators is strictly a 21st-century joint, and Prey is a solo effort that’s still better if you know what you’re in for. If you’re rushed for time, skip the AVP films entirely and save yourself the aggravation. Just make sure Killer of Killers is your grand finale—at least until Predator: Badlands shows up in a couple of months!
