Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie made waves with its 2023 debut, but it’s far from the first time that Barbie’s had her own film. In fact, she’s starred in well over 40—and that’s not counting any of the TV shows or specials.
Most fans count “Barbie in the Nutcracker” as the first official Barbie movie, released in 2001. Mattel has pumped out new animated content almost every single year since. The company’s overall Barbie strategy changed over the years, even going so far as to rename her little sister and deny she ever existed, but the sparkly pink movies (and accompanying dolls) have captivated generations of kids.

Where to find every Barbie movie online
When it comes to legally streaming the Barbie movies, you’ll find them in one of three places. Every Barbie movie from 2001 to mid 2017 is available exclusively on video on demand (VOD) services like Amazon and Google Play to buy or rent. (The only exception is “The Barbie Diaries”, which was removed from all VOD services in the US).
Every animated Barbie movie from mid 2017 through 2026 is available to stream on Netflix. However, this isn’t an exclusive deal, and you can still find these titles on VOD as well. Also, Netflix removed the interactive movie “Barbie: Epic Road Trip” in late 2024 along with the rest of its interactive titles. The project now only exists in clips on the Barbie YouTube channel.
But there are over 40 Barbie movies, and those $3.99 rental charges really add up. It’s actually a lot easier to watch certain classic Barbie movies as of 2026. Some titles, like “Magic of Pegasus” and “12 Dancing Princesses,” are available for free on YouTube. Keep an eye on the official Barbie YouTube channel to see what titles get added next.

But where can I watch the Barbie movie?
If you’re just looking for the recent Greta Gerwig film starring Margot Robbie as Barbie, you can find “Barbie” (2023) streaming on Max. A Max subscription costs $10.99–$22.99/mo., but you can get a 7-day free trial if you sign up through Hulu or Amazon.
You can also purchase “Barbie” on VOD through most online storefronts. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see a full list of options.
Where to find physical copies of Barbie movies
As streaming companies remove exclusive titles from their services, audiences are turning back to physical media. Luckily, Barbie movies began as a direct-to-home-video venture, so physical copies are abundant. Some titles are better when experienced physically—no streaming service can replicate the experience of watching “Magic of Pegasus” with Barbie pink 3D glasses. Respect Barbie’s creative vision!
Mattel released every Barbie movie on DVD, and most are available on Amazon. You might have to find older titles secondhand, but they’re not too hard to come by—check your local used book sales and garage sales if you’re hesitant to buy them online. (I’ve personally stumbled upon several in the wild without even meaning to!)
Alongside DVDs, Mattel also released VHS copies of Barbie movies during 2001–2005, if you still have a working VCR kicking around.

And like most media released before the age of streaming, you may also find several Barbie DVDs at your local library, so check there first. If you’re still having trouble finding older Barbie movies, check in with your friends born in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. Trust me.
