3 new seasons from iconic shows this weekend

Apple TV, HBO, and Paramount+ are all swinging for the fences in the same weekend, with returning prestige dramas that together span neo-noir sci-fi, Targaryen civil war, and globe-trotting espionage. Here’s what’s coming and why each one is worth your time.

1. “Sugar” Season 2 (Apple TV, Friday, June 19)

Colin Farrell returns as John Sugar, Los Angeles’ sharpest — and strangest — private eye, in a new missing persons case involving the troubled older brother of a rising local boxer. Eight episodes drop weekly starting June 19, with the season wrapping August 7, 2026. New cast members include Jin Ha, Laura Donnelly, Tony Dalton, Shea Whigham, Raymond Lee, and Sasha Calle.

New to the show? Season 1 ends with a significant twist that Season 2 builds on directly — so binge it first on Apple TV.

2. “House of the Dragon” Season 3 (HBO, HBO Max, Sunday, June 21 at 9:00 p.m. ET)

Fan-favorite “Game of Thrones” spinoff “House of the Dragon” Season 3 premieres Sunday, June 21, at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO, streaming simultaneously on HBO Max, with eight weekly episodes running through August 9. The season premiere is reported to run 72 minutes, and showrunner Ryan Condal has compared its production ambition to the Battle of Helm’s Deep in “The Lord of the Rings.”

Critics who’ve seen early episodes say the show has addressed Season 2’s pacing complaints with more brutal, consequential storytelling from the opening scene. One caveat: Some reviewers note it may rush through major story beats in the process. Either way, I’m stoked to get dancing again with those dragons.

3. “The Agency” Season 2 (Paramount+, Sunday, June 21)

All 10 episodes of “The Agency” Season 2 drop at once on June 21, making it the week’s only full binge-ready launch. Michael Fassbender returns as CIA operative Martian, now navigating a mole hunt inside London Station while grappling with the fallout of the choices he made in Season 1. Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Richard Gere, and Katherine Waterston are all back, with writers Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth returning alongside executive producers George Clooney and Grant Heslov.

The show has a 66% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and no fan rating, which is weird, but I wouldn’t put too much stock in that. If you haven’t watched yet, I highly recommend “The Agency” Season 1. You can stream it now on Paramount+.
