New on Hulu this week

King of the Hill | Hulu | Animation, comedy

Season 14 premiere, Monday, August 4: Hank and Peggy Hill are entering a new era as they return to Arlen, Texas and find that it changed in their absence. This beloved adult comedy returns for its 14th season this year after a super-long hiatus. Much of the original cast is making a return as well, so fans of the original 13 seasons will be happy.

New on Apple TV+ this week

Platonic | Apple TV+ | Comedy

Season 2 premiere, Wednesday, August 6: Apple TV+’s comedy Platonic doesn’t ask “Can a man and a woman be friends,” it asks “Can a man and a woman be friends without accidentally maiming the other person’s dad in a golfing incident?” Platonic stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, who are joined by former SNL cast members Aidy Bryant, Beck Bennett, and Kyle Mooney for the show’s second season.

Season 2 premiere, Wednesday, August 6: It’s a big week for second seasons. The second season of this Addams Family teen drama airs on—what else?—Wednesday. In case you were wondering: the price of a Standard Netflix subscription went up by $2.50/mo. in the time since the first season aired.

New on STARZ this week

Outlander: Blood of My Blood | STARZ | Science fiction, drama

Series premiere, Friday, August 8, 8:00 p.m. ET: Travel back in time—twice—in this Outlander prequel following Jamie and Claire’s respective parents. One couple lives during 18th century Scotland, and the other during World War I. Why settle for just one love story when you can follow two, across time periods, simultaneously?

New on HBO Max this week

Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills | HBO, HBO Max | Reality, sports

Limited series premiere, Tuesday, August 5, 9:00 p.m. ET: You don’t have to step foot on the St. John Fisher University campus to enjoy the magic of the Bills training camp. Join the entirety of Western New York in imagining that maybe, this time, the Bills will win the Super Bowl. And all of that bright-blue Wegmans merch will have been worth it.

New on Peacock this week

Las Culturistas Culture Awards | Bravo, Peacock | Awards show

Live show, Tuesday, August 5, 9:00 p.m. ET: Comedians Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers are hosting the LCCAs this year—which isn’t a surprise, since they started the show. The awards, which started on their podcast, highlight the pop culture moments from the last year like “Jojo Siwa continues to evolve,” “We could go see BOOP!,” and “Sarah Sherman in a Wig.”

New movie releases available to rent/buy on VOD this week

Ebony & Ivory (2025) | Comedy

The usual What to Watch writer, Randy Harward, is out of office this week, but begged me to include this rec. I don’t really get it, but who am I to deny a coworker on what may or may not be his birthday?

Ebony & Ivory is the fictional retelling of the very real collaboration between Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney, told through a very bizarre comedic lens. I’m not super familiar with the song, but I can only assume it created world peace?

You can rent Ebony & Ivory from video-on-demand (VOD) outlets like Prime Video, Google Movies & TV, and Fandango at Home (formerly VUDU) as of Friday, August 8.
