Mr Loverman | Britbox | Drama

Limited series, Wednesday, June 4: Based on Bernadine Evaristo’s novel of the same name, Mr Loverman follows Barrington “Barry” Jedidiah Walker (The Walking Dead’s Lennie James, who executive produces), an Antiguan-born, married septuagenarian with a secret. The eight-episode series streams in its entirely on Britbox as of today.

New on Apple TV+ this week

Stick | Apple TV+ | Comedy

Series premiere, Wednesday, June 4: This one sounds like a more grown-up blend of the Farrelly Brothers’ Kingpin and Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore. Pryce Cahill (Owen Wilson) is a former pro golfer whose career’s been stuck in a sand trap for two decades, so he’s been working at a sporting goods store until recently. Now the only thing he has left is mentoring a troubled teen golf prodigy. Three episodes debut today, with the rest coming weekly.

New on Max this week

Chespirito: Not Really on Purpose | Max | Drama

Series premiere, Thursday, June 5: This eight-episode biographical series documents the life of beloved Latino entertainer Chespirito—aka Roberto Gómez Bolaños. But you might know him better as the titular characters in El Chavo del 8 and El Chapulín Colorado. The latter, for those still puzzled, is the inspiration for Pedro Chespirito—the Spanish-speaking bee character—on The Simpsons. The premiere episode streams today on Max, with subsequent episodes released weekly thereafter.

New on Peacock this week

Resident Alien | Peacock, USA, Syfy | Comedy, sci-fi

Season 4 premiere, Friday, June 6, 11 p.m. ET: The saga of awkward, quirky marooned alien/fake physician Harry Vanderspeigle continues in Resident Alien’s fourth season with Harry now stuck in prison while another alien impersonates him back in the small mountain town of Patience. The series airs live on both Syfy and USA, with episodes streaming on Peacock a week after airing.

New on Netflix this week

The Survivors | Netflix | Drama, thriller

Limited series premiere, Friday, June 6: Based on Jane Harper’s bestselling novel of the same name, Australian import The Survivors explores family, loss, and trauma. But it’s as much a murder mystery as it is a family melodrama, according to showrunner Tony Ayres. This limited six-episode series, filmed in Tasmania, streams in its entirety today.

New movie releases available to rent/buy on VOD this week

Sinners (2025)

HaveyouseenSinnersyet?! Everyone asks, every day, and I still haven’t seen it. But I’m totally gonna, ‘cause the reference people drop most is one of my favorite movies: the Robert Rodriguez-directed, Quentin Tarantino-written action-horror jam From Dusk Till Dawn. That probably doesn’t quite cover it, but I really wanna go into it cold—just like I did with FDTD, which paid off huge. Here’s hoping the Michael B. Jordan-led Sinners (OMG OMG OMG have you seen it?!) does likewise. You can rent Sinners from video-on-demand (VOD) outlets like Prime Video, Google Movies & TV, and VUDU as of Tuesday, June 3.
