New on NBC this week

A cast photo for St. Denis Medical shows all seven main cast members peeking past a hospital curtain. St. Denis Medical is part of CableTV.com's What to Watch This Week column for November 11, 2024.

St. Denis Medical | NBC, Peacock | Comedy

Series premiere, Tuesday, November 12: Promotional materials describe this medical workplace mockumentary as “a lot of silliness coupled with emotional life-or-death moments.” That has us thinkin’ Scrubs-meets-The Office with a touch of medical drama. Sounds great if it works. Otherwise, we’ll probably end up in the ER with tonal whiplash. Two episodes premiere tonight on NBC and stream tomorrow on Peacock, with new eps every Tuesday (streaming Wednesdays). Wendi McLendon-Covey (Reno! 911), David Alan Grier (In Living Color), and Allison Tolman (Fargo) star. Watch Trailer

New on Prime Video this week

A man interrogates another man in a scene from Cross, which is streaming on Prime Video. Cross is part of CableTV.com's What to Watch This Week column for November 11, 2024.

Cross | Prime Video | Crime thriller

Series premiere, Thursday, November 14: Aldis Hodge (Leverage, Straight Outta Compton) plays novelist James Patterson’s character, serial-killer-chasing D.C. detective/forensic psychologist Alex Cross. We haven’t screened an episode, but it’s a hilariously safe bet that this Amazon original series is way better than Tyler Perry’s Alex Cross movie. Amazon MGM Studios believes in the series, too, having already approved a second season before the first eight episodes debut. Watch Trailer

New on Peacock this week

Image of a man standing in front of a mirror and peeling away a disguise. A scene from The Day of the Jackal, which is part of CableTV.com's What to Watch This Week column for November 11, 2024.

The Day of the Jackal | Peacock | Thriller

Series premiere, Thursday, November 14: Based on Frederick Forsyth’s Edgar Award-winning 1971 novel of the same name, The Day of the Jackal stars Golden Globe Award–winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) as the titular Jackal—a professional assassin on the run from a British intelligence officer (Lashana Lynch, Captain Marvel). The first five episodes hit Peacock today, with new eps arriving weekly on Thursdays until the double finale airs on December 12. Watch Trailer

New on Shudder this week

A man dressed as a priest smiles creepily in a scene from The Creep Tapes, streaming on Shudder in November 2024.

The Creep Tapes | Shudder | Horror

Series premiere, Friday, November 15: If you haven’t already seen the found-footage horror flicks Creep and Creep 2, you should check ‘em out (you’ll need a Netflix subscription) before you dig into this new Shudder Original Series. The films follow serial killer Josef (co-writer/executive producer Mark Duplass), who hires videographers to document his doings (then, y’know, stuff happens). The series promises to be as freaky-fun as the films, and it’s probably fine to watch it first, but we think you’ll like it more if you watch the films first. Watch Trailer

New on Netflix this week

A young female martial artist jumps toward an opponent with a bo staff. A scene from Netflix's Cobra Kai.

Cobra Kai | Netflix | Drama, action

Season 6, Part 2 premiere, Friday, November 15: The hit show based on the hit Karate Kid franchise from the 1980s blew up on YouTube and Netflix thanks to clever writing, a great cast of old and new characters, and nostalgia. Now it’s coming to an end, with a sixth and final season that’s being released in three batches in order to settle its various story arcs. The second batch hits Netflix today, and Cobra Kai’s third and final installment streams on Netflix early next year. Watch Trailer

New on Apple TV+ this week

A man peeks through a slot in a metal door in a scene from Silo, which is part of CableTV.com's What to Watch This Week column for November 11, 2024.

Silo | Apple TV+ | Science fiction, drama

Season 2 premiere, Friday, November 15: Based on the Hugh Howey trilogy of dystopian, post-apocalyptic novels (Wool, Shift, and Dust), Silo follows 10,000 survivors living one mile below Earth’s surface. They don’t know why they’re in the silo, or who built it—only that it’s unsafe to leave. Already there’s oodles of intrigue, plus drama, romance, and murder. The mystery deepens in the second season, which debuts tonight with the first of 10 weekly episodes. Rebecca Ferguson, Common, Tim Robbins, Rashida Jones, and Steve Zahn star. Watch Trailer

New on HBO this week

A man with his back to the camera stands before a bald authority figure on a throne. Beside the authority figure is a women wearing a black shroud. A scene from Dune: Prophecy, premiering on HBO and streaming on Max in November. Part of CableTV.com's What to Watch This Week column for November 11–17.

Dune: Prophecy | HBO, Max | Science fiction, drama

Series premiere, Sunday, November 17: Inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert (son of Dune creator, novelist Frank Herbert) and Kevin J. Anderson, Dune: Prophecy (originally titled Dune: Sisterhood) has been in the works at HBO/Max for five years. With the success of Denis Villeneuve’s two Dune films, this prequel series has finally come to fruition, but without Villeneuve’s direct involvement. The season’s six episodes come out weekly on Sunday, first live on HBO, then streaming the following day on Max. Watch Trailer

New on Paramount+ this week

A man in a cowboy hat talks on a mobile phone while standing in front of an oil rig. A scene from Landman, which is part of CableTV.com's What to Watch This Week column for November 11, 2024.

Landman | Paramount+ | Drama

Series premieres Sunday, November 17: If you’re bummed about Kevin Costner leaving Yellowstone, would a Yellowstone spinoff starring Billy Bob Thornton make you feel better? Landman trades ranches for oil fields and family drama for fortune-seeking—and, as mentioned, Costner for Thornton (a solid trade if you ask us). Based on the podcast Boomtown, the series also stars Ali Larter, Mark Collie, and Demi Moore with recurring/guest appearances by Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia, and Michael Peña. Two episodes premiere on Paramount+ tonight, with the remainder coming weekly thereafter. Watch Trailer

New movie releases available to rent/buy on VOD this week

A teen boy looks at a mobile phone in the dark. A scene from the tech-horror film Do Not Open, which is part of CableTV.com's What to Watch This Week column for November 11, 2024.

Do Not Open (2024)

This Swedish psychological horror film directed by Brian Babarik is a cautionary tale about technology addiction. When a teenager’s parents forbid her to attend a music festival, she downloads a mysterious app that triggers “a terrifying chain of events” that threatens the entire family. We bet they’ll let her attend the concert next time—if there is a next time. Available to rent or buy at video-on-demand (VOD) outlets November 12. Watch Trailer
