New ‘Bluey,’ ‘Frozen’ Three-quel, and Live-Action Rapunzel: Everything You Missed at D23

A weekend full of Disney headlines
Disney dazzled audiences this weekend with its Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23, its annual convention. For those lucky enough to be in the Honda Center, they were treated to musical numbers and sneak peaks from all sorts of upcoming Disney properties.
The rest of us will have to wait until the movies come out in 2027, 2028, and beyond…. But we can still enjoy certain teasers and clips from the show. I’ve compiled a roundup of what I consider the biggest news to come out of D23 this year.
Ready? Let’s get started!
“The Bluey Movie”
At long last, “The Bluey Movie” has a teaser trailer. The film, inspired by the super-popular kids’ show, was first announced in 2024.
We don’t know a ton about the movie’s plot, but the teaser trailer shows off a brand new 3D art style for the little blue dog and her sister. The movie will come to theaters on August 6, 2027, and will likely appear on Disney+ several months after that. Oh, and don’t worry Australians — you’ll be able to stream it as well.
Good news for “Kingdom Hearts” fans

I spend a lot of time researching upcoming animated series, and this is one I’m super excited for. “Kingdom Hearts” is a popular video game series that mixes “Final Fantasy” with iconic Disney characters like Donald, Mickey, and Goofy. Since the Disney mobile game “Twisted Wonderland” got an anime adaptation last year, it was only a matter of time before “Kingdom Hearts” got its own show, too.
The “Kingdom Hearts” show will premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+, but does not yet have a release date.
And that’s not the only “Kingdom Hearts” news to come out of D23 this year. “Kingdom Hearts IV” got a new trailer, featuring a look at the game’s new “Coco”-inspired world. “Kingdom Hearts IV” will come to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S in late 2027.

New Pixar films
Do you like sequels? Disney’s got sequels. We got a first look at two new Pixar sequels this D23: “Incredibles 3” and “Coco 2.”
“Incredibles 3” will focus on the Parr kids: Violet, Jack-Jack, and Dash. This time, the siblings will be taking on a new and powerful supervillain. It doesn’t seem like they’ve aged that much in the last 22 years, which isn’t much of a surprise since executive producer Brad Bird has said that it’s important to him that the trio remain children.
“Incredibles 3” will come to theaters on June 16, 2028.
Miguel, on the other hand, has aged. The new “Coco 2” concept art shows Miguel as a teenager, and his would-be grandfather Ernesto de la Cruz as a more bedraggled, menacing version of himself.
“Coco 2” will come to theaters in November 2029.
And if sequels aren’t your thing, you can still look forward to the upcoming, original Pixar film, “Ghost Market.” It’s Pixar’s first horror film, but it’s “not like some of those other scary movies.” The first teaser trailer, which you can watch above, shows a ghost enjoying a bowl of ramen. And now I’m hungry.
“Ghost Market” will come to theaters in Spring 2028.
Disney Princesses are back in the spotlight
Disney Princesses are having a moment right now. If you didn’t know, World Princess Week began on August 16, and will run until August 22. Disney+ is celebrating with a wave of new content, including a filmed concert featuring Disney Princesses past and present.
But as for Disney Princesses of the future? Fans can look forward to “Frozen 3,” which was heavily promoted at this year’s conference. Attendees saw an exclusive clip from the film, showing Elsa pulling Anna away from her and Kristoff’s wedding to investigate a mysterious new ice queen. And some of the actors made an appearance to sing new songs from the film.
“Frozen 3” will come to theaters in Fall 2027.
Meanwhile, on the live-action side of things, fans were treated to a video message from Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim, stars of the new live-action “Tangled” film. They’re filming in Spain right now, so the message showed them in full costume travelling around the real Spanish buildings Disney is using to represent the kingdom of Corona.
“Tangled” will come to theaters on March 31, 2028.

You’ll be able to watch all of these new titles and more on Disney+ sometime in the distant future. In the meantime, there are plenty of Disney and Pixar movies you can watch while you wait.
