The Spectrum-Cox merger is officially in the books: Cox has gone the way of the dodo for home internet customers, and Spectrum’s now the primary internet, TV, and phone service provider for former Cox customers across the nation.

But now that the dust has settled, what do you need to know about your TV, internet, or phone service if you’re a former Cox customer? Let’s break down some of the biggest post-merger questions that former Cox customers are asking.

How TV, channel lineups work from Cox to Spectrum

Let’s get one thing straight: As we (and Spectrum) previously mentioned, your TV plan and rate aren’t changing right now if you’re a former Cox customer. You’ll still get the same channels, hardware, and pricing you had on Cox now that Cox has become Spectrum. (That said, Spectrum reserves the right to change things up in the future — the “at this time” in its official FAQ is load-bearing — but you won’t have to worry about it right now.)

But what should you expect if you’re considering jumping from Cox to Spectrum TV service? In most cases, former Cox customers can qualify for Spectrum’s new customer promotions. And when it comes to cable TV and streaming packages, you’ll likely see decent monthly savings.

In most markets, Spectrum is transitioning from its traditional cable boxes to the Xumo Stream Box. These streaming boxes are generally easier to manage, smaller, and offer upgrades like streaming app support. You’ll be encouraged to get them instead of a cable box when you sign up for service, though it may be possible to keep your old box if you catch the right customer service representative in-store.

How does the transition from Cox to Spectrum internet work?

Post-merger, a lot of former Cox customers have made the jump over to Spectrum for benefits like unlimited data and a lower monthly bill. Considering doing the same? Here are a few potential hurdles customers have run into online:

• On Cox Connect2Compete? You’ll wanna keep that bad boy as long as you can. Spectrum’s comparable low-income internet program offers slower speeds at more per month.
• Fee watch: Online, some Cox customers have mentioned getting hit with a $50 service change fee when they’ve migrated to Spectrum. Spectrum says that this fee only applies depending on address and complex installation requirements, so make sure to ask about it before you finish the move over.

• How much should you be paying for Spectrum internet? Spectrum’s (thankfully) tossed out Cox’s regional pricing for standardized national pricing, so you won’t see huge differences between states.
