How to Change or Cancel Optimum
We’ve done the research and here’s what you’ll need to update, pause, or drop your Optimum service.
Whether you’re cutting the cord or taking it with you, let’s break down what your next steps will be if you’re changing your Optimum service.
Moving Optimum service
Check out Optimum’s moving form to make sure you can transfer your Optimum TV or internet service.
Optimum’s footprint covers New Jersey, Connecticut, and much of New York City, so if you’re staying in the New York tristate area, you’ll likely be able to transfer your Optimum subscription to your new address.
Pausing Optimum service
If you’re heading out of town for a while, call Optimum customer service at +1-866-218-3259 or chat with an Optimum by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking “Message us.” Just ask the agent to freeze your service for up to six months. You won’t have to pay your full bill during each billing period, but you’ll still have to pay a small monthly fee while your service is paused. But you can resume enjoying your Optimum bundle when you get back.

The form covers account transfer scenarios like changing your account name after a marriage or transferring account ownership if the old account holder passed away.
Adding to Optimum service
Call Optimum’s main sales department at +1-866-200-7273 to add new Optimum internet, cable TV, or phone services to your account. The sales department’s hours are 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET from Monday to Friday, and its weekend hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET.
Troubleshooting Optimum service
Visit Optimum’s support page to find tutorials that’ll answer common internet, TV, phone, and account questions. If you’re dealing with Wi-Fi problems on Optimum hardware or a possible service outage, Optimum offers 24/7 tech support at the local phone number for your Optimum region.
Canceling Optimum service
To cancel Optimum service, call Optimum’s local customer service line for your region. Optimum customer service is available from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
Make sure that your account is fully closed and any equipment is shipped back by the end of whatever billing cycle you want to be your last. You’ll be billed for an extra month if you run into a new billing cycle, and Optimum doesn’t prorate your bill after your service is cancelled.
