The Phoenix Mercury turned some heads in 2024, clawing their way back into playoff relevance with a 19–21 record and a 7th seed finish, which more than doubled their win total from the year before. With Kahleah Copper leading the charge and Brittney Griner anchoring the paint, the Mercury showed flashes of their championship DNA, even as they bowed out in the first round to Minnesota. It was a season of grit, growth, and a glimpse at what could be.
This year, things are looking up, and the Mercury are striving for greatness. With Diana Taurasi retired and Griner now in Atlanta, the Mercury retooled in a big way. They brought in All-Stars Alyssa Thomas and Satou Sabally, added veteran guard Sami Whitcomb, and handed the keys to second-year head coach Nate Tibbetts. They now have a deeper, faster, more versatile squad that’s already making noise in 2025. Are we in for a surprise this year? They just may be my sleeper pick for the season.

Best TV plans for watching the Phoenix Mercury
If you never want to miss a Mercury game, you’ll need a TV plan that covers you both locally and nationally.
WNBA League Pass is your go-to for replays and all out-of-market games. But since the Mercury are featured on a mix of national platforms, you’ll want a streaming service that carries those channels. Fubo checks most of those boxes, and even carries local channels for in-market fans. Though you’ll also need a separate Amazon Prime Video subscription to access the Mercury’s six Prime Video games this season.
Here are the details to help you choose the best TV service for following the WNBA.

Fubo ($14.99–$94.99/mo.)
Fubo is a solid pick for Phoenix Mercury fans who want both national and local coverage in one place. It offers access to major networks airing Mercury games in 2025, like ION, CBS Sports Network, NBA TV, and ABC, and you even get local Arizona stations such as 3TV and Arizona’s Family Sports, which carry in-market broadcasts.
One thing I’ll bring to your attention is that you may need the Fubo Extra or Elite package to unlock channels like NBA TV. But if you’re in the Phoenix area and want a one-stop streaming solution, Fubo covers a lot of ground.

WNBA LeaguePass ($12.99/mo.)
Since the WNBA season skips winter, you may be out living your best life during the warmer months. That means you’ll need a way to watch Mercury games on your own time, and WNBA League Pass is a smart backup. It’s built for fans who want flexibility, offering full replays and out-of-market games you can stream anytime.
Keep in mind that live games shown nationally (like those on ESPN, ION, and Prime Video) and locally may be blacked out due to broadcast rights. But the good news is that those matchups usually unlock for replay not long after the final buzzer.
How to watch the Phoenix Mercury for free
If you’re hoping to watch the Mercury without cracking open your wallet, your options are limited, but not nonexistent. A handful of nationally televised games (seven, to be exact) air for free on ION, so keep an “eye on” the schedule for those gems.
Also, WNBA League Pass occasionally tosses out free game previews during the season, which is nice if you’re out of market or just curious about the Mercury. And if you’re in Arizona, Arizona’s Family (3TV/CBS 5) will broadcast 36 Mercury games locally, no cable required, just a digital antenna and you’re good to go.
Amazon Prime Video also sometimes offers free trials, and they’ve got a few Mercury games on deck this season. So if you time it right, you might just sneak in a game or two on the house.
