What to watch on Apple TV+ this week
The Buccaneers | Apple TV+ | Drama
Series premiere, Wednesday, November 8: Ever wish Bridgerton was a bit more American? In the vein of Ted Lasso, The Buccaneers follows a group of American women from “new money” families who try to acquire husbands during the London Season of the 1870s.
For All Mankind | Apple TV+ | Drama, sci-fi
Season 4 premiere, Friday, November 10: Jump back to the Cold War with this alternate history series about the Space Race in a world where the Russians beat Americans to the moon. Would it drive America to reach Mars faster? For All Mankind says yes.
What to watch on Discovery+ this week
Holiday Baking Championship | Food Network, Discovery+ | Reality, cooking
New season, Monday, November 6: This festive favorite celebrates its 10th season in 2023. Twelve bakers enter the kitchen, but only one will win the grand prize of $25,000. So this holiday season, join legions of other reality TV fans in (incorrectly) thinking, “I could do that.”
Beat Bobby Flay: Holiday Throwdown | Food Network, Discovery+ | Reality, cooking
New season, Tuesday, November 7: Do you like your cozy baking shows to err a little more on the competitive side? Much like the year-round event, which just finished up its 33rd season, Holiday Throwdown contestants must outcook celebrity chef Bobby Flay in a blind taste test. Spoiler alert: Wikipedia says that Flay wins about 62% of the time.
What to watch on Paramount+ this week
Colin from Accounts | Paramount+ | Comedy
New series, Thursday, November 9: Paramount+ is moving into Australian television with this romantic comedy about a couple whose meet-cute involves an embarrassing car accident and a hefty veterinary bill.
The Curse | SHOWTIME, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME | Comedy
New series, Sunday, November 12: A24’s new comedy series follows a couple of newlyweds (Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone) producing an ethically dubious home-flipping show in New Mexico. Also, something tells us the production might just be cursed. Just a feeling.
W2W wildcards of the week
Akuma Kun | Netflix | Anime
New series, Thursday, November 9: Netflix’s latest anime acquisition is Akuma Kun, a story about a child prodigy who solves paranormal murder mysteries. You might recognize this title (sometimes spelled Akuma-kun) from the ‘90s anime series; it seems to have gotten a darker visual refresh for this reboot.
Beacon 23 | MGM+ | Drama, sci-fi
New series, Sunday, November 12: Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) and Stephan James (Homecoming) star in this atmospheric space drama about the 23rd-century equivalent of a lighthouse, something mysteriously called “The Artifact,” and a lot of secrets.
