What To Watch This Weekend: Stream Our Top 7 TV and Movie Picks (Mar. 9-15)

Entertainment writer Randy Harward recommends the best shows, movies, and more on TV this week, including "Louis Theroux: Inside

A collage of images from "Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere," "Sunny Nights," "Scarpetta," and "Bodycam," shows covered in CableTV.com’s What to Watch This Week column for Mar. 9–15.
Clockwise from left: "Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere" (Netflix), "Sunny Nights" (Stan/ABC/Hulu), "Scarpetta" (Connie Chornuk/Prime), and "Bodycam" (Shudder).

This week’s “What To Watch” picks include the documentary “Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere” (Netflix) the Australian comedy-thriller with American stars “Sunny Nights” (ABC and Hulu), the airport fiction–inspired forensic drama “Scarpetta” (Prime Video), and the corrupt-cop found-footage horror “Bodycam” (Shudder).

We also recommend the 98th Annual Academy Awards (also ABC and Hulu), another “Yellowstone” spinoff, “The Madison” (Paramount+), and another “Dracula” remake on video-on-demand (VOD). Let’s hit the couch!

New on Netflix this week

“Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere” | Netflix | Documentary

Special, Wednesday, Mar. 11: Documentarian Louis Theroux recently told British GQ, “I’ve made documentaries for over 30 years now, and in a way, this subject feels like the final boss. Racism, antisemitism, misogyny, homophobia, porn, human trafficking—all of it is folded in.” Indeed, the manosphere encompasses all of that, but don’t forget profound douchebaggery. Watching these swole metrosexual—and allegedly criminal—infants explain why they’re superior, high-value men and you’re not is comedy gold. It kinda makes me wish this were a series and not a special, but I’m still grateful for a cathartic hour of Louis Theroux vs. the Confidently Incorrect Manbabies.

New on Prime Video this week

“Scarpetta” | Prime Video | Drama

Series premiere, Wednesday, March 11: Blumhouse horror plus airplane fiction procedural dramas (Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling series of Kay Scarpetta novels) equals what? Probably a hit, with Nicole Kidman portraying the titular forensic examiner and a cast rounded out by Jamie Lee Curtis, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Ariana DeBose, Hunter Parrish, and Rosy McEwen. Amazon Studios must sense it has a winner, ’cause a second season is already on order.

New on Hulu this week

“Sunny Nights” | Hulu | Comedy, drama

Series premiere (U.S.), Wednesday, Mar. 11: All that American bro-sis duo Martin and Vicki Marvin (Will Forte and D’Arcy Carden) want to do is open a spray-tan salon in sunny Australia (sounds like a winner of an idea, snort). Then they get caught up with the wrong kinds of people—crooks—and suddenly fear for their safety, freedom, and solvency. The series already aired in Australia last year and finally arrives stateside today via Hulu, where it’s available to stream in its eight-episode entirety.

New on Shudder and AMC+ this week

“Bodycam” | Shudder, AMC+ | Horror

Movie, Friday, March 13: Does anyone else out there binge bodycam videos on YouTube? It’s addictive—basically like watching “COPS” IRL and getting the satisfaction of a trashy first-person freakshow plus instant justice. Don’t get me wrong, though: The cops aren’t always the good guys. Just look at the officers in this found-footage horror movie, who try to save their bacon by covering up an accidental killing. Little do they know, however, that someone (something) witnessed their crime and getting away won’t be so easy.

New on Paramount+ this week

“The Madison” | Paramount+ | Drama

Series premiere, Saturday, Mar. 14: We just got a new “Yellowstone” spinoff two weeks ago, and now there’s already another. Described by Paramount+ as “[creator Taylor] Sheridan’s most intimate work to date,” “The Madison” is a “deeply personal family drama about resilience and transformation.” Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell star as the heads of the Clyburn family, who’ve relocated from Manhattan to the Madison River valley in Montana, intending to recover from a family tragedy. Three episodes premiere tonight, with three more coming next Saturday.

New on ABC and Hulu this week

“98th Annual Academy Awards” | ABC, Hulu | Awards show

Live event, Sunday, Mar. 15, 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT: The world’s most prestigious popularity contest returns for the 98th time—with Conan O’Brien hosting again, plus full-on bangers for Best Picture Nominees. Which prestige flick are you rooting for? I haven’t seen all 10 movies, so nothing against “Hamnet” and “Marty Supreme,” but I’m rooting for Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” and Yorgos Lanthimos’s “Bugonia.” But the award I’m really invested in is Actress in a Supporting Role. The Academy better recognize my girl Amy Madigan for her role as the baleful, clown-faced witch Gladys in Zach Cregger’s “Weapons.” Maybe if she doesn’t win, she can steal Conan’s famous lock of hair for a hex …

New movie releases available to rent/buy on VOD this week

“Dracula” (2026) | Horror, fantasy, romance

Another retelling of Bram Stoker’s legendary vampire tale? So soon after we’ve gotten the “Nosferatu” remake and “The Last Voyage of the Demeter?” Well, it has the always-awesome Christoph Waltz (so soon after another turn in a classic horror remake, “Frankenstein”) in it. I’m here for that, but Waltz isn’t playing Dracula—a role he would absolutely slay—but rather as a “The Priest,” a Van Helsing analog from the original story (Caleb Landry Jones portrays Dracula). And then this is also more of a fantasy romance than a horror story. I suppose I’m still in since there’s been no mention of glittery vamps. You can rent “Dracula” from video-on-demand (VOD) outlets like Prime Video, Google Movies & TV, and Fandango at Home (formerly VUDU) as of Tuesday, March 10.
