The series, created by and starring Quinta Brunson, follows the daily struggles of a group of teachers at a broke Philadelphia school and borrows heavily from the mockumentary style of The Office—in the best way. Abbott Elementary also made several kinds of history at this year’s Emmy Awards:
- Abbott Elementary was the only broadcast TV series nominated in multiple (seven) Outstanding Emmy categories.
- Quinta Brunson (32) was the youngest Black woman ever nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy, as well as the first Black woman to receive three comedy noms in one year.
- Veteran Sheryl Lee Ralph (66) won her first Emmy, Outstanding Supporting Actress, with her first-ever nomination.
- Abbott Elementary was the highest-trending show on Emmys night Twitter—even hotter than cable and streaming heavyweights Succession and Ted Lasso.
You’re probably thinking, “Hey, maybe I should check this show out,” and you’d be right. The second season of Abbott Elementary premieres Wednesday, September 21, on ABC, and the hit first season is available to stream right now—here’s how to catch up.
Watch Abbott Elementary on HBO Max
Data effective as of post date. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.
All 13 episodes of Abbott Elementary’s debut season are available to stream on HBO Max. We prefer the ad-free HBO Max plan, but it’s your five bucks. While there’s no direct free trial period with the service, there are several HBO Max deals out there.
Watch Abbott Elementary on Hulu
Data effective as of post date. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.
Hulu gives you a few more options with its plans, including a 30-day free trial with its on-demand-only (no live TV) services. You’d have a whole month to catch up on Abbott Elementary’s first season, as well as next-day on-demand access to the new Season 2 episodes. It’s not stealing—it’s sampling, OK?
Watch Abbott Elementary on-demand
ABC is available on most every cable, satellite, and live TV streaming service, and so is series on-demand capability. On the downside, full seasons of shows like Abbott Elementary aren’t always available through live TV services’ on-demand libraries, so HBO Max or Hulu might be the safer bet.
But we do have recs for the best in cable, satellite, and live TV streaming:
Get caught up on Abbott Elementary before Season 2 premieres, or wait until after the whole season runs on ABC and binge-watch it over Christmas break—you do you.
