Is Sling TV or Fubo better?

Sling TV and Fubo (formerly fuboTV) are equal in our live TV streaming editorial rankings but for different reasons. We’re giving Sling TV the edge in this matchup, thanks to its endless package customization options and relatively lower pricing, but there’s still much to like about Fubo.

Fubo is loaded with over 260 channels, with many dedicated to popular and niche sports. However, Fubo’s channel lineups are devoid of WarnerMedia Discovery networks—including TNT, Discovery Channel, and Cartoon Network/Adult Swim—which makes it tough to justify the monthly price tag.

Sling TV offers several add-on channel packages to pump up its sports and entertainment content and easy workarounds to make up for its lack of streaming local channels. If you like customization options and a lower monthly bill (like we do), Sling TV is probably for you.

TBH, other services offer more channels at better prices

Both Sling TV and Fubo have fewer channels and cost more than a lot of the competition. Enter your zip code below and find better TV deals near you.

Free trials and deals

Sling TV only occasionally offers free trials to test its service, but it has several promotions to take advantage of. Check out our Sling TV Deals guide for more details.

Sling TV $40.00–$55.00/mo. 30–45+ 1–4 50 hrs. View plans

The numbers seem simple: Fubo gives you more channels for more money, while Sling TV offers fewer channels at a lower price. But the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Sling has many add-on options to get more channels you might want. In contrast, Fubo carries multiple niche sports channels you may not care about (and no TNT or TBS). On the plus side, you won’t find another provider that offers as many sports channels as Fubo.

Sling TV vs. Fubo plans and pricing

We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again: if you’re looking for a cheaper streaming service with decent channel lineups, sign up for Sling TV. We’ll go into more detail below.

Sling TV plans and pricing

Plan Price Channels Streams Cloud DVR Details
Sling Orange $40.00/mo. 30+ 1 50 hrs. View plan
Sling Blue $40.00/mo. 40+ 3 50 hrs. View plan
Sling Orange + Blue $55.00/mo. 45+ 4 50 hrs. View plan

Data effective as of post date. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.

Sling’s Orange and Blue plans carry popular channels like AMC, Comedy Central, and Lifetime, but they focus on different audiences: Sling Orange features several sports and kids’ channels; Sing Blue is more about entertainment and news.

Our preferred plan, Sling Orange + Blue, gives you a combined lineup of over 45 channels for $55.00 per month. But you can customize either Sling Orange or Sling Blue (both $40.00 a month) to your taste with optional channel add-on packages. More on that later.

Fubo plans and pricing

Plan Price Channels Streams Cloud DVR Details
Pro $79.99/mo. 185+ Up to 10 1,000 hrs. View plan
Elite $89.99/mo. 255+ Up to 10 1,000 hrs. View plan
Premier $99.99/mo. 260+ Up to 10 1,000 hrs. View plan
Latino $32.99/mo. 65+ 2 250 hrs. View plan

Fubo’s most basic plan, Pro, serves up a healthy bunch of channels and cloud DVR space for $80 per month. But we believe the Elite plan is worth your money if you can budget for $90.

For $10 more per month, the Elite plan can net you about 70 more channels, including NBA TV, MLB Network, Tennis Channel, ACCN, and SEC Network.

The Premier plan adds Paramount+ with SHOWTIME channels for $100 a montha nice splurge plan.

Despite its fat lineup, Fubo’s lack of TNT, CNN, Cartoon Network/Adult Swim, and several other popular Warner Bros. Discovery channels is difficult to overlook. Sling TV has ‘em, but Sling is low on sports channels. So, you’d have to decide which channels are more important (that is, if you had to decide between these two services.)

For a more detailed look at Sling TV’s available channels, check out our Sling TV Channels and Sling TV Add-On Packages guides. You can also visit our Fubo Channels page for a deep dive into Fubo’s network lineup.

There are a lot of sports channels in the Fubo column—it’s definitely the sports-focused streaming service it claims to be. You can bolster Sling TV with its Sports Extra add-on package of over a dozen additional sports channels. Fubo is the winner here for sports fans, but we highly recommend the Elite plan. With the Elite plan, you’ll get NBA TV, MLB Network, NHL Network, SEC Network, Tennis Channel, ESPNU, ESPNews, and more.

Sling TV only streams ABC-, FOX- and NBC-affiliated channels in select areas but offers over-the-air digital antenna workarounds to integrate broadcasts into its channel lineup. Those channels are free, after all.

Fubo conveniently streams local ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC channels in most areas.

Fubo upgraded its DVR from 1,000 hours of cloud DVR storage space to unlimited. You’ll never have to worry about going over this generous allotment.
