Sports drive more traffic than ever when it comes to live TV streaming services. But with streaming prices increasingly approaching cable TV levels, we understand if you want to trim budgets wherever you can. (I’ve gotta watch my share of live college football games for work-related reasons, but paying for all those channels is way less fun.)
MySports is a new sports streaming option from DIRECTV STREAM, the company’s live TV streaming service. The skinny bundle’s channel lineup is packed exclusively with live sports networks like ESPN and FS1. It’s not for everyone, but if paying less and not missing games are your biggest concerns, you’ll find a lot to like about DIRECTV MySports.
DIRECTV MySports plan: solid channels, average price
Plan | Price | Channels | Notable channels | Details |

DIRECTV STREAM MySports | $69.99/mo. | 25+ | ESPN, ESPN2, TBS, FS1 | View plan |

MySports is essentially a DIRECTV STREAM channel pack—once you sign up for MySports, you’ll download the DIRECTV app and use the DIRECTV STREAM interface to watch your MySports channels.
But I don’t love DIRECTV MySports’ price compared to the rest of the DIRECTV STREAM catalog. MySports gets you 25+ channels for $69.99 monthly, but if you upgrade to DIRECTV STREAM’s ENTERTAINMENT starter plan for an additional $5.00 per month, you’ll get an extra 65+ channels. (That said, DIRECTV MySports also throws in a free ESPN+ subscription to help sweeten the deal.)
The narrow regular price gap between MySports and DIRECTV STREAM’s standard plans lowers it from a great to a merely fine deal.
DIRECTV MySports channels
As a sports fan, I was more than satisfied with MySports’ strong cable channel lineup. DIRECTV included everything from must-haves like ESPN and FS1 to additional channels like SEC Network, ESPNU, NFL Network, NHL Network, and NBA TV.

However, MySports’ major network coverage requires a little more explanation because ABC, NBC, and FOX’s availability on MySports varies by location. For instance, MySports offers all three channels in New York but only has FOX in Denver. (CBS isn’t available outright on MySports. Sorry, March Madness/CSI fans.)
This channel gap limits MySports’ usefulness. Losing these channels means you’ll miss countless regular-season NBA, NFL, or college sports games unless you upgrade to a standard DIRECTV STREAM package or purchase an over-the-air antenna along with your DIRECTV subscription.
That said, MySports’ sports cable channel lineup is still phenomenal and handily beats Sling Orange’s similar sports-centric streaming pack. Plus, regional sports networks will be available for an added fee later this year.

MySports harnesses DIRECTV STREAM’s sports features
DIRECTV STREAM’s user interface is in line with other TV streamers, but MySports subscribers will likely get mileage out of its great sports-centric features. When you create your viewing profile, you’ll be able to add your favorite channels and sports teams. I was a huge fan of the depth of DIRECTV’s personalization options, which beat other streamers like Fubo and YouTube TV. Impressively, DIRECTV STREAM’s college basketball team catalog stretches from the Big Ten all the way to the Southwest Athletic Conference.

Once your profile’s set up, you’ll head to the app’s homepage. Here, you’ll find a live channel feed alongside your bookmarked channels and notable live programming.

Sports fans can also head to the Sports Central tab for a more tailored browsing experience that includes programming from your favorite leagues. Under the My Teams section, you’ll find their upcoming game schedule, and matchups can be added to your DVR.
When you’re watching live TV, you can also view a sidebar that lists live scores. This tracker also works as a semi-quadbox mode, as you can easily switch between games via the score tracker (although you can only watch one game at a time). I easily managed to toggle between multiple NBA matchups with my Apple TV remote.

DIRECTV STREAM’s unlimited DVR also works great for catching late-night games in the morning. It’s easy to record shows onto your DVR, as you’ll simply open the episode listing and add it to the DVR’s upcoming record schedule.

Throughout my testing period, I had no problem with buffering or scrolling between shows. Picture quality remained consistent on the Apple TV app, and I had no performance problems scrolling through the guide or switching between tabs.
But DIRECTV STREAM isn’t without its quirks and limitations. I didn’t love having to manually type in my password on my TV since virtually every streamer offers a QR code or browser-based login option. Still, DIRECTV STREAM earned its spot as our top sports streamer thanks to its strong app, local channel coverage, and great user interface.
