Does DIRECTV have internet?
You don’t need an internet connection to use DIRECTV. It’s a satellite TV service, so you can use any internet provider that’s available in your area. There are, however, one or two internet service providers (ISPs) that pair particularly well with DIRECTV.
We think that AT&T’s DSL and fiber internet services pair best with DIRECTV. After all, AT&T owns DIRECTV, so you’ll get fast internet speeds, better prices on bundles—and a single bill.
Another DSL/fiber provider, CenturyLink, also contracts with DIRECTV for the TV portion of its bundles. But you’ll pay more for CenturyLink’s fiber plan than you will for AT&T’s—and you’ll have two monthly bills (one from CenturyLink and one from DIRECTV).
So CenturyLink would be a good choice if AT&T isn’t available in your area. Otherwise, go with AT&T.
Best internet providers to use with DIRECTV
*for 12 mos, plus taxes & $10/mo equip. fee applies. Data effective as of publish date. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.
**Rate requires paperless billing. Additional taxes, fees, and surcharges apply. Speeds may not be available in your area. Maximum download/upload speed of up to 940 Mbps via a wired connection.
Best overall: AT&T
- Best price for fiber
- Fiber speeds up to 940 Mbps (download) and 880 Mbps (upload)
- Bundles with internet and phone service
- Limited availability
AT&T has only one fiber-optic plan. It’s called Internet 1000 ($60.00 per month), and it has download speeds up to 940 Mbps and upload speeds up to 880 Mbps. This is a great value. Customers will still get a $10/mo discount on TV when they bundle with internet.
If you can’t get fiber where you live, AT&T has a DSL plan with download speeds up to 100 Mbps. It’s also $35.00 monthly. Yup—it’s the same price as the fiber plan. And still a good deal for DSL internet. But the equal price makes not being eligible for fiber sting even more.
AT&T’s DSL bundles work the same way as the fiber ones. So the total savings for bundling AT&T services is $10.00 across the board.
And one last perk that tops off bundling AT&T Internet and DIRECTV: by choosing this provider, you get to deal with a single provider on customer service calls. It’s not like that with CenturyLink (explanation below).
Best contract: CenturyLink
- Fiber speeds up to 940 Mbps (download and upload)
- Internet and phone service available
- No contracts
- Wider availability
- Disappointing customer service compared to DIRECTV
CenturyLink also has only one fiber plan. CenturyLink Fiber Internet costs $65.00 a month and has download and upload speeds up to 940 Mbps. That’s $5.00 more than you’d pay for AT&T Fiber, but you’re getting slightly higher upload speeds (AT&T Fiber offers 880 Mbps).
On the DSL side, CenturyLink charges $50.00 per month for up to 100 Mbps. That’s only $10 cheaper per month than AT&T’s fiber internet service—which is 10x faster than a DSL connection. So, again, cross your fingers and hope you can get fiber where you live.
That said, CenturyLink’s DSL plans all come with lengthy price guarantees, which means your rates won’t increase as long as you have your plan. Since you can do a lot with 100 Mbps, that’s not such a bad deal. And that’s all without a contract.
What’s not such a great deal: CenturyLink’s bundles won’t save you much money—if any at all. You’ll save about $5.00 a month on the triple-play bundle with DIRECTV’s PREMIER package. Everything else is regular price.
With customer service, it’s gonna be a little bit of a pain compared to AT&T. For internet and phone, call CenturyLink. For TV, call DIRECTV.
If you can handle having a contract, AT&T is the best internet provider to go with DIRECTV because you get to have your internet, phone, and TV service with one company—at a discount. Plus, there’s that sweet HBO Max deal to consider.
But AT&T’s bundling discount isn’t so big. So if you’d rather avoid contractual commitments, CenturyLink might be worth the extra money.
