Disney Plus review: Is Disney+ Good?
At $9.99–$15.99/mo., Disney+ is a decent streaming deal even if you don’t have kiddies in need of digital babysitting. It has over 7,000 movies and TV shows that aren’t available anywhere else, meaning you could clear all those beat-up Disney DVDs out of the garage and maybe park your car (or Tauntaun) in there again.
Disney+ is great for kids, but there’s plenty here for adults, too. Well, adults who are into cartoons, lightsabers, and superheroes, that is. If you need more PG-13-and-above fare, you can bundle Disney+ with Hulu and ESPN+.

Increasing costs got you down? Here’s how to save money on Disney+
If you want to save in the long run, you can take the plunge for the Disney+ Premium $159.99-per-year deal. You’ll save $31.89 annually.
Or you can up your streaming game with a bundle that includes Disney+, ESPN+, and (ad-supported) Hulu for only $16.99 per month.
You’ll save $14.98 per month on the cost of the three services separately. This bundle is also available with ad-free Hulu, ad-supported Hulu + Live TV, and ad-free Hulu + Live TV for $26.99 a month.
Disney+ has two plans, but you can customize how you want

Most streaming services offer a discounted annual plan, but not all of them let you know about it upfront, so always look into those FAQ sections. Disney+’s no-ads yearly $159.99 service plan can save you about $32.00 over monthly payments—a better choice if you plan to keep streaming all year.
If you’d still prefer monthly billing, we recommend bundling with at least one other service to get the most for your money. It’s a much better deal to get some form of the Disney Bundle, with prices starting at $10.99/mo. for the ad-supported versions of Hulu and Disney+ together.

Disney+ is in the middle of the streaming pack, cost-wise. Its ad-supported plan is on the more expensive side, but its $15.99/mo. ad-free price is pretty standard for premium streaming in 2025. Of course, it feels like a bit of a rip-off when you can upgrade to the Disney Bundle for just a dollar or two more and get Hulu’s entire library as well.
Watch out for price hikes
In the years since its inception, Disney+ has become one of the most expensive streamers on the market. This is even true for the Disney Bundle—the streaming deal that provides Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for one monthly price. Disney raised the prices for all three of its services in October 2023 and again October 2024, and I expect it’ll be a yearly tradition.
Disney isn’t the only streaming service to raise its prices after it got popular, but I still think it’s shameless how the price for ad-free streaming has more than doubled from 2020 to 2025.

Movies and shows on Disney Plus
On-demand movies and shows
Did we say Disney+’s content is compelling? More like staggering: Disney+ carries almost every Disney classic and recent favorite, from 1940’s Fantasia to 2021’s Luca. We say “almost” every classic because there are a few gaps in the Disney+ collection, like the 2007 live-action fairytale Enchanted and 1970 farce The Boatniks, among hundreds of others. Don’t even ask about 1946’s Song of the South.
Still, with thousands of movies and shows to choose from, it’s unlikely you’re going to be mad about not finding Lindsay Lohan’s Herbie: Fully Loaded on Disney+ (it’s on Max, fyi).

Disney Plus original shows and movies
Disney+ made a major splash right out of the gate with its original The Mandalorian Star Wars series that gifted the world with Baby Yoda (sorry, sorry—“Grogu”). After that, Marvel took over the buzz with WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki.
It’s not all about Star Wars and Marvel, though: Disney+ has also stepped up with more down-to-earth fare like Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. (an update on Doogie Houser from the ‘80s), Big Shot (a sports comedy starring John Stamos), and Just Beyond (a Twilight Zone for tweens).
On the movie front, you probably know about the animated Pixar offerings Soul and Luca, as well as Beyonce’s Black is King and Billie Eilish’s Happier Than Ever. Disney+ originals may be family-friendly, but they’re far from predictable.

Share Disney+ with your family (if you can)
Data effective as of post date. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.
Disney+ allows for up to seven personal profiles and gives you dozens of avatars from Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, National Geographic, The Muppets, The Simpsons, and other universes to choose from. We’re partial to Dug the Dog from Up.
Four simultaneous streams is a minor upgrade from the three most streaming services give you, for sure. If you have more housemates to keep entertained, Disney+ also offers unlimited offline downloads for up to 10 devices as a workaround. Bravo, Mickey!
Unfortunately, you may not be able to take full advantage of those streams if you’re trying to access Disney+ outside of your main household. Like Netflix and Hulu, Disney+ keeps track of where you live and doesn’t like it if you log in from somewhere else. It doesn’t always enforce this rule, though, so it’s worth a shot if you want to try to avoid those extra member fees.

Disney+’s features
Video and audio quality
Disney+ streams in 1080p HD, with some content available in 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, and Dolby Vision. Many older Disney movies and shows have been remastered to take advantage of Disney+’s eye-popping visual capabilities, but don’t expect the first few seasons of The Simpsons to look as sleek as The Mandalorian.
Disney+’s audio output is standard 2.0 stereo or Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, depending on the movie or show. Some newer titles feature Dolby Atmos audio, if your system can handle it.
Unlike many of its competitors, these premium viewing options are available to all subscribers, not just certain tiers.
Let your kids browse Disney+ safely with parental controls
Disney+ isn’t our Best of the Best pick for kids’ content, but it does a decent enough job. It offers a Junior Mode for very young children, although it’s not quite as customizable as it could be. Rather than letting parents block certain ratings or titles, it makes its own judgements—meaning random titles like Frozen are considered off-limits.
You have to turn off Junior Mode to enable ratings, but once you do, you can block certain TV and film ratings like you’d expect from a streaming service’s parental controls. Disney+ does host R-rated content now, and even more if you’re bundling with Hulu, so you’ll want to keep an eye on this setting if your kids have their own devices.

What do Disney+ customers think?
Disney+ failed to crack the top three in any of our Customer Satisfaction Survey categories in 2025, but its satisfaction ratings tend to fall around the middle of the pack. It ranked fourth in Best Bang for Your Buck and fifth in Customer Loyalty, beating out many of its successful competitors like Apple TV+ and Paramount+. We also found that 52% of Gen Z subscribes to Disney+—making it the third most popular streamer among young adults.
However, it still could do better. Customers are getting more frustrated as the platform raises prices without seemingly any justification, and expect more content for the price they’re paying.
"Prices keep increasing. I've never had an issue with them but the prices do keep increasing."
"I like the wide selection Disney+ has to offer in content. I like that they have adult shows too, not just children's Disney stuff."
Is Disney Plus worth it?
Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, The Simpsons, and The Muppets? That’s a pop-cultural Mount Rushmore.
If you have children in the household, we think Disney+ is a must-have streaming service—but we wouldn’t limit it to just the kids (or kids at heart). The phrase “something for the whole family” gets tossed around a lot, but Disney+ fits that bill almost perfectly, especially when bundled with Hulu and/or Max.
As with Disneyland and its other theme parks, Disney’s mission is to leave no customer unsatisfied—or cash left on the table.
Disney Plus FAQ
How much does Disney+ cost?
Disney+ Basic (with ads) costs $9.99 a month. Disney+ Premium (no ads) costs $15.99 a month or $159.99 a year.
Does Disney+ stream in 4K?
Disney+ streams in 1080p HD (Blu-ray quality), with some content available in 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, and Dolby Vision. To get the full, clear picture, you’ll need a TV or device that supports these video formats.
Does Disney+ offer same-day movie premieres?
No. During COVID-19, Disney released some movies, like Black Widow, on Disney+ the same day they arrived in physical theaters for an extra fee of $30. But the company has abandoned that model, with new movies being made available to stream on Disney+ (with no extra fee) 30 to 45 days after theatrical release.
