Is Mediacom internet good?

But our recent survey of customers from 14 of the largest internet service providers in the US put Mediacom in 10th place for overall customer satisfaction. Only 34% of Mediacom respondents said they’d recommend the internet provider to a friend, so your Mediacom milage may vary.

Which Mediacom internet package is best? Well, that’ll depend on the person buying it. Mediacom has three main internet plans priced from $49.99 to $79.99.

You can do a lot of internet-ing—including HD gaming and streaming—with Mediacom’s Internet 200 plan, which gives you download speeds up to 200 Mbps with a 1,000 GB monthly data cap. The internet speed on Mediacom’s intro package is best for singles, couples, and smaller families with young children.

For digital adventurers who live for 4K gaming and streaming and share a home with like-minded relatives or roommates, we suggest the 1 Gig plan and its 1,000 Mbps maximum download speed. Although the plan doesn’t come with unlimited internet data, you’ll still have a whopping 6,000 GB data cap.

Although Mediacom’s Internet 100 is super cheap, and the internet speeds might be fast enough if you have only one or two folks at home, that 200 GB data cap is super small. Mediacom will charge you $10 for every 50 GB you go over each month, so you could rack up a lot in overage fees if you enjoy streaming TV.

With data caps in mind, we’d recommend Internet 200 as the better starting package. It comes with good internet speeds and a data cap that will get you pretty far.

If you really want speed, the 1 Gig plan is the way to go. Those download speeds can support streaming live TV while other family members use the internet. The 50 Mbps upload speeds aren’t as good as the matched upload speeds from fiber internet providers, but they should do the trick if you need to make video calls from time to time.

Mediacom internet equipment

Mediacom has a monthly rental fee of $12 a month, but you can contact Mediacom’s customer service to sign up without a modem rental and choose a compatible modem to bring instead.

Additionally, Mediacom offers rentals on the mesh Wi-Fi system eero Pro 6 starting at $10 a month. But you can bring your own router without having to contact Mediacom. We’d recommend getting your own devices to save money over time.

Mediacom low-income internet

Mediacom Connect-2-Compete offers internet plans starting at $9.95 a month for low-income families. To qualify, you have to have at least one student in K–12 living at home who qualifies for the National School Lunch Program.

Apply on the Mediacom Connect-2-Compete page, and check out our info on low-income internet programs for tips on getting free internet.

Final take

Skip Mediacom’s cheap Internet 100 plan unless you don’t stream TV or spend much time online. Most folks will have a better experience with the data allowance you get from the faster plans.

Don’t forget to check out other internet providers in your area. They probably don’t have cheaper plans, but they probably have better customer satisfaction.
