Disney Just Renewed 4 Shows, but Canceled an Award-Winning Favorite

Good news for ABC fans: 2026 renewals are here
It’s that time of year when cable networks and streaming services announce which shows survive another year and which shows are gone for good. Disney recently announced the fate of five popular shows across two of its networks, ABC and FX.
And it’s good news for ABC fans. Disney just renewed four ABC shows. But FX fans—especially fans of a certain cooking drama that has dominated comedy awards for far too long—may want to sit down for this one.
Renewed at ABC: “9-1-1” and “9-1-1: Nashville”
Think ABC has run out of big, scary stunts to pull, again and again? Think again. Both “9-1-1” and its spinoff “9-1-1: Nashville” have been renewed for another season each. This will mark the 10th season for “9-1-1” and the 2nd for “9-1-1: Nashville.”
I, for one, am excited to see what kind of trailer they’ll use to promote the next “9-1-1” season, and whether they can outdo the “big lights falling from the sky” setup that confused YouTube audiences in 2025.
Renewed at ABC: “High Potential” Season 3
Who doesn’t love a detective drama? ABC’s “High Potential” has been renewed for a third season. Its second season premiered in September 2025, and fans have been left waiting for half a year for a renewal notice.
And it’s finally here! That means another season of Kaitlin Olson’s Morgan Gillory, a cleaning lady turned police consultant whose eye for detail outshines the professionals. And another season of fuzzy pink coats paired with denim miniskirts.
Renewed at ABC: “Abbott Elementary” Season 6
School is back in session. Quinta Brunson’s single-camera comedy has delighted audiences since 2021, gathering more accolades with every awards season. It’s the latest in a long line of successful ABC sitcoms, and the network isn’t letting this one go any time soon. “The Goldbergs” got ten seasons and “Modern Family” got eleven, so “Abbott Elementary” might be in it for the long haul, too.
Canceled at FX: “The Bear”
“Canceled” might not be the right word here. Forgive me for a bit of hyperbole. But restaurant drama “The Bear” is ending—it’s just getting one more season before it does. FX recently announced that its fifth season will be its last.
In this age of premature cancellations and streaming service madness, it feels strange for a show to end on its own terms. Usually, even when showrunners claim they never planned more, it still feels like things are ending too soon.
But “The Bear” is critically acclaimed and won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2024. It makes sense that Disney gave the story as many seasons as it needed. I’m just interested to see if the writers can stick the landing. And whether it ever actually turns into a comedy.
