“Good Omens” Season 3, explained

“Good Omens” fans were treated to the long-awaited Season 3 release date this week: The show returns to Amazon Prime Video on May 13, 2026.

But there’s a catch. After Neil Gaiman stepped back from the production amid sexual assault and abuse allegations, Amazon greatly reduced its episode count. And I mean greatly reduced. “Season 3” will actually be one 90-minute episode, essentially a movie, to wrap up the unfinished story started in the second season.

That’s right, we’re still in uncharted territory here. The first season of the show covered the entire self-contained plot of the book, originally co-written by the late Sir Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The second season moved beyond the book’s ending, creating new storylines for characters who had already had a happy ending.

But then that season left off on a cliffhanger back in 2023, so fans have been waiting a long time for a resolution to the new story. It may not be in the form of a full season, but they’re finally getting a 90-minute wrap-up.

As you might expect for a show that cheekily draws so much of its worldbuilding from Christianity, the “Good Omens” promotional staff timed its release date announcement around Easter. The day after Easter, the “Good Omens” Instagram account posted a clip with the caption, “Let’s kick off the Second Coming!”

This built up hype until the account finally posted the below promo image later in the week, confirming that “Good Omens” Season 3 is coming on May 13.
