‘Oh, Mary!’ Becomes the Latest Broadway Show to Hit Streaming

For years, Broadway shows have been pretty inaccessible to the general public. To see one, you’d have to either travel to New York City or hope that you could catch an illegally filmed bootleg on YouTube before Broadway’s copyright lawyers struck it down. You could hope that your closest city was visited by a touring production, but those tickets can also be costly.
Things are changing in the 2020s. For example, “Hadestown” made box office history with a professionally shot (“proshot”) production in movie theaters earlier this year. The reimagined Greek tragedy grossed over $20 million dollars, making even more than “Hamilton” did in its 2025 theatrical run. And it’s not the only show to find success this way.
The latest show to get the proshot treatment is “Oh, Mary!,” Cole Escola’s stage comedy about Mary Todd Lincoln. You’ll be able to watch it at home, with Cole Escola reprising the titular role, beginning in 2027.

How to watch “Oh, Mary!” at home
“Oh, Mary!” is coming to HBO and HBO Max some time in 2027. While the proshot doesn’t have an exact release date, it does already have its own page on the HBO Max website with a tag saying “Coming Soon.”
How to watch other Broadway shows
If you can’t wait for next year’s “Oh, Mary!” proshot, there are other Broadway productions you can watch right in your living room.
Well, “Broadway production” is a bit of a misnomer. While some of these shows originated on Broadway, many of them, including “Oh, Mary!,” were filmed in London’s West End. That’s because, due to the high cost of living in New York City, it’s more expensive to hire workers and rent space in the U.S. than it is in the U.K.
Actors’ unions are also stronger in America, and production companies would have to pay residuals if they filmed their proshots on this side of the pond. British stage unions have fewer stipulations. And London is overall a more promising city for theatergoing tourists in 2026, since recent American politics have taken a heavy toll on New York City tourism.
But whatever the reasons, Broadway shows are finding success in London, and that success translates to more proshots in theaters and on streaming services. Here are some that you can watch right now:
