2025’s Best Musical Revival Wasn’t Nominated for a Tony—But It Is Getting a Proshot

Goin’ back to Hatchetfield
Team StarKid, the comedy musical troupe behind viral hits like “A Very Potter Musical,” “Holy Musical B@man,” and that one song about not doing work that was on your TikTok feed for like a month, is back at it. And I mean really back at it—they’re reproducing one of their best musicals.
StarKid first released “The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals” on YouTube in late 2018. The show, a horror-comedy about a body-snatching alien invasion, was an instant hit with the group’s fans and spawned a whole universe of horror comedies taking place in the same cursed town of Hatchetfield. But StarKid’s production value has increased a lot since that original production, and now they’re revisiting “TGWDLM” with a way bigger budget.
That original production fundraised a budget of $127,792 on Kickstarter back in 2018. This new project, which ran a Kickstarter campaign in 2025, raised $642,019. That’s more than any StarKid show has ever raised on the platform.
So you can expect this revival, “The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals: Reprised!,” to be even bigger and better. Most of the original cast is returning, with Will Branner from “Nerdy Prudes Must Die” subbing in as Professor Hidgens.
So how can you watch “TGWDLM: Reprised!” if you didn’t see it live? Don’t worry; like all StarKid shows, it’s available as an official proshot (no slime tutorials here; the show has enough slime as it is.) Keep reading for more information, or watch the trailer below.
How to watch “The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals” revival
“The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals: Reprised!” will be available for purchase on May 11, 2026 through the Team StarKid website. You can also purchase the show’s live-recorded cast album ahead of time.
Most StarKid shows are eventually available for free on YouTube; this has been true since their early days making “A Very Potter Musical.” And this show is no exception. You can already watch the original “Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals” for free on YouTube right now, or you could wait and watch “TGWDLM: Reprised!” when it comes to YouTube on July 4, 2026.
What’s next for StarKid?
StarKid is already working on their next show—not another Hatchetfield installment, but a new story inspired by games like Dungeons & Dragons. It’s called “Tomb Quest,” and it’s crowdfunding now on Kickstarter. According to the campaign description, “Tomb Quest” is a “dungeon-delving musical comedy” about five friends reunited to finish their old high school TTRPG campaign.
As of writing, “Tomb Quest” has raised about $221,000 of its $275,000 goal.
