A closer look at Washington State women’s basketball

Washington State’s debut season in the WCC was a solid, if not frustrating, success. A 21–14 record and a WNIT Super 16 finish are nothing to sneeze at. But as a fan, I know the real story was finishing third in the conference and failing to beat the two teams ahead of them: Gonzaga and Portland. You can bet those rematches are circled in red on this year’s calendar.

That’s easier said than done. The transfer portal ravaged the Cougars this offseason, with six players heading for the exit. The pressure is now squarely on the returning core, led by leading scorer Eleonora Villa and shot-blocker Alex Covill. The big question, in my mind, is who will replace Astera Tuhina at point guard. All eyes are on Mackenzie Chatfield, a transfer from Western Kentucky, to see if she can run this new-look offense.

This is a “prove-it” year for head coach Kamie Ethridge’s retooled squad. The good news for fans? Finding the games is simple. With the move to the WCC, ESPN+ is the primary hub for almost every game. To help you follow along, I’ve created this complete guide on how to watch Washington State women’s basketball all season.

2025–2026 Washington State women’s basketball TV schedule

The Cougars tip off the 2025–2026 campaign with a home opener against the University of Idaho on November 3. From there, the challenging non-conference slate includes road games against former Pac-12 foes Stanford and Oregon, plus participation in the Paradise Jam tournament featuring Miami (OH) and LSU.

WCC play begins in Pullman on December 28 against Pepperdine. As I said earlier, you’ll want to highlight those conference clashes with new primary rival, Gonzaga: January 31 at home and February 19 on the road in Spokane. Those and the Portland games will be crucial litmus tests as WSU aims for a top spot in the WCC standings heading into the conference tournament, which starts March 5 in Las Vegas.

Best TV plans for watching WSU women’s basketball

Following the Cougars in the WCC is now all about ESPN+, which is the exclusive home for the vast majority of their games. With the launch of the new ESPN streaming service, this content is now part of the ESPN Select and ESPN Unlimited plans. If you’re an existing ESPN+ subscriber, you’ve automatically been rolled into the ESPN Select plan, and you’re all set for the WCC schedule.

Those looking for a new TV plan, my top recommendation is to get a live TV streaming service like Hulu + Live TV or Stream with DIRECTV. The reason I chose these is that they not only offer robust channel lineups but also include complimentary access to ESPN Unlimited, which gets you all that ESPN+ content in one package. If you don’t need a comprehensive TV plan, a standalone ESPN Unlimited subscription is your next best option for WSU basketball.

How to watch Washington State women’s basketball FAQ

Where can I watch WSU women's basketball for free?

Free, legal streaming options are very limited now that WSU is primarily in the WCC/ESPN ecosystem. Unlike the old Pac-12 Network structure, WCC games require an ESPN Select/Unlimited subscription. Major tournament finals may air on national channels like ABC or ESPN, but regular-season games are typically not available for free viewing.

How can I stream WSU women's basketball without cable?

Subscribing directly to ESPN Select for ESPN+ coverage is the primary and most cost-effective way to stream Cougars basketball. This gives you access to the vast majority of WSU's games, especially all their WCC matchups. Just keep an eye out for non-conference away games that may appear on a different network. This season, one of those matchups will stream for free on MW Network.

Can I watch Washington State basketball on ESPN+?

Yes. With Washington State competing in the WCC, ESPN+ via ESPN Select/Unlimited serves as the primary broadcast platform for the overwhelming majority of their conference games.

What channels show Washington State women's basketball?

Nearly all of Washington State's regular-season matchups stream live on ESPN+, which is available through ESPN Select and ESPN Unlimited. Should WSU reach the NCAA Tournament, ESPN Unlimited will be more crucial for its additional ESPN channel access.
